David Weigel: ‘The Rise of Wayne Allyn Root’

Posted by David Weigel in the Washington Independent:

He didn’t get as much coverage as, say, Dick Armey, but 2009 was a very good year for one of the more ambitious figures in conservative politics, Wayne Allyn Root. A self-made millionaire who rose to prominence as an expert on gambling — especially sports betting — Root barreled into the 2008 Libertarian Party presidential campaign, eventually becoming Bob Barr’s running mate. Neither candidate was satisfied with what, in the end, was the most successful LP campaign since 1980, in terms of raw votes. But Root bounced back with a political text titled “The Conscience of a Libertarian” and a steady stream of appearances on Fox Business. And today he informs the subscribers to his enormous email list that he’s guest-hosting G. Gordon Liddy’s radio show, no small forum, on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Wayne’s confirmed guests include former Republican Presidential candidate and Forbes magazine Editor-in-Chief Steve Forbes; best-selling author, syndicated columnist and conservative commentator Ann Coulter; best-selling author, Newsmax.com columnist and political strategist Dick Morris; and possible 2012 Presidential candidate Gary Johnson, the former Governor of New Mexico.

It’s fascinating watching Root transform into a libertarian/conservative pundit in real time, and become immediately credible. Here’s Root in action.

I listened to Wayne on Christmas Eve. Wow! What energy that man has! He sounds so positive and excited about freedom. And the gets, Ann Coulter and Gary Johnson? This is great!

Here on the West Coast, the new label is conservative-libertarian or libertarian-conservative (depending on your primary persuasion). People don’t call themselves by political party names because the R’s and D’s have been such a disappointment.

    Onward, Freedom Lovers!

The Libertarian Party needs Wayne Allyn Root, and so does the nation. The US government has become enormously bloated, and the LP is the only political party whose platform is explicitly in favor of limited government. Wayne is an enormously articulate spokesman for the party, limited government, and the nation’s best interest.

“Because of Wayne the Libertarian Party as been more exposed than it has it years”

    Exposed to…

    …disease?
    …infiltration?
    …the elements?

Because of Wayne the Libertarian Party as been more exposed than it has it years, he is doing what should have been done a long time ago. Anyone in their right mind should support Wayne 100%, anyone else is 2nd fiddle. I am sorry to say but even if you don’t agree 100%, think outside the box and realize if it were not for Wayne Root we wouldn’t have come this far and he deserve our support for upcoming elections. We cannot afford to do anything less as anyone knows what is happening in this country.
Thank you for all your support to Wayne Root.

We need a voice and Wayne is doing his part. But everyone of us needs to get off the couch and take back our country from the elite’s in Washington DC.
