A Brown University poll released Tuesday shows that former U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee is ahead of his possible opponents for governor.
His Democratic opponents are Frank Caprio and Patrick Lynch. John Robitaillie is the only Republican in the race.
If Caprio wins the Democratic primary, Chafee would beat him in a general election with 33.8 percent of the vote to Caprio’s 28 percent and Robitaille’s 12 percent, according to the poll.
If Lynch wins the Democratic primary, Chafee would beat him with 32 percent of the vote to Lynch’s 17 percent and Robitaille’s 13 percent, the poll showed.
According to the poll, Chafee wins 40 percent of independent voters and 30 percent of Democrats. Twenty-five to 35 percent of the voters polled are still undecided.
The Moderate Party candidate for governor, Ken Block, was not included in the poll, which was conducted before he announced his intention to run.
