FT. HAMILTON STATION – The budget is 7 days late and no progress has been made to cut spending. Instead, newspaper reports indicate that the items on the table legislators are considering to solve the fiscal morass include ways to raise taxes, fees, and borrowing.
“The budget deficit will not be closed by raising taxes and fees, by borrowing $6 billion, by fiscal gimmicks, using money intended for specific needs, and certainly not with unrealistic projections of income, for example the income from increased gambling outlets”, says an unsigned statement issued by the Conservative Party of New York.
“Your fiscal obligation is to all of the residents of New York and that includes making across the board cuts in spending and the elimination of wasteful programs. New York residents need to know that you will just say ‘no’ to increasing any taxes or fees and to new borrowing. New York residents cannot afford a “soda” tax, an increase in the cigarette excise tax or the reinstatement of sales tax on printed materials; New Yorkers cannot afford any increase in any taxes, fees, or borrowing.”
The Conservative Party released a five-point plan it claims would halt the demise of New York State:
· Albany Must Immediately Cut State Spending
· New York Medicaid Reimbursements Must Be Reduced
· Limits Must Be Placed on Public Employees’ Salaries and Pensions
· Reduce New York’s Burdensome Tax Rates

The CP complains about state spending but when it comes to Military Socialism that apparently means squat. This was most recently demonstrated when they nominated Neocon Doug Hoffman in NY-23
Annual taxes from the state of New York are not that high at all.
The killer tax in New York is the local school tax.
The reasons that tax is so high include: Districts present a “yes/no” budget with goodies for administrators, instead of a “menu item” budget that would empower communities; school district lines are the secret weapon that keeps Long Island segregated (and most people want it that way, and will play the game); Districts consolodated in the ’70s, and continue to do so, creating unaccountable, big, bloated bureaucracies who can hire big lawyers to protect themselves.
To lower taxes and make living in NY affordable, it would be more effective to: Clamp down on racism, favoritism, and bloating at school districts and in communities; demand menu item budgets be put on ballot; continue to expose greedy lawyers who exploit school districts, disabled students and the community by misusing their power to line their own pockets. (Another way, is to make it so there is absolute transparency and not one morsel of privacy regarding payments to lawyers or settlements between districts and professionals or corporations.
All of that would be much more helpful than riling people up about the small amount of money they fork over to NY state.
