tentatively titled
Building an Alternative To The Two Party System
No Really- We Mean It

Michael Cavlan RN of Open Progressives of Minnesota
Mark Kamleiter of Nader Supporters-New Party
There will possibly be speakers from the Florida Ecology Party, Oregon
Progressives and California Peace and Freedom Party.

Robert, I may have to make a trip to Florida to talk to Crist at one of his campaign rallies. I am currently fundraising for that. I’m in california so it won’t be easy, but I do have some possible connections that may be helpful.

What makes you think that we want any old body to join? After our recent (eight year +) experiences on just how those who support the rotten corrupted two party system will sabotogue, smear and subvert those who are serious about building a real, viable alternative to the system, we have earned the right to be paranoid..
If you want more people to join your Party Cavlan, I’d be less condescending and paranoid.

What you and Ross need to understand is that many of us did try that. For years. In my case 8 years.
There are reasons that we left the GP, substantial structural issues. Ross, you could even ask your friend John Murphy about it.

Concerned citizen, how do you propose to get through to Crist?
Robert, it’s actually more likely that Crist can be convinced to declare for PLAS. Snitker is just another third party loser just like the rest of the Green and Libertarian Party who won’t compromise because of a few specific issue. Crist has surprised us several times politically; he is a very open-minded person. Problem is that when I have tried to call his campaign offices, his advisors won’t let me speak to him (Crist). But if we could speak with him, I think he woudl see the value of PLAS.
The US national Green Party has passed its use-by date, There are some active state parties.
The 10 Commandments, er, 10 Key values is an absurd attempt to separate it self from the Euro Greens and their more sensible four pillars or what ever they call them. But even the Euro greens have shifted to the Right.
Crist is balking that he is the conservative.
True, TR was a republican. But he declared progressive. Crist must declare progressive-or libertarian-& support PLAS to be a PLAS candidate.
Somebody should convince Snitker to declare support for PLAS & seek the progressive vote & go for the close defacto three way race plurality win.
d.eris, well then, that makes Snitker the prospective PLAS candidate in that race. Crist is highly unlikely to declare for PLAS.
And I don’t think Greens would vote for him because of his stance on LBGT rights, abortion, etc.

Robert is right, we need PLAS. Charlie Crist is the first PLAS candidate likely to be successful. He is a former Republican, like Theodore Roosevelt, and the greens and libertarians aren’t running anyone in Florida.
Green Party Conservative, Kavlan is likely not talking about the British and German green parties; he’s criticizing the US Green Party.
Complicated is the wrong word. It’s more that the sustainability movement requires a strict adherence to specific personal habits. Too much pointing the finger at each other instead of congress.
There’s just something about the Greens. They tend to be difficult to approach. I think their platform is too complicated for it’s own good, especially when members hold each other to strict standards. Difficult to make any headway that way.
I would like to see you people organizing PLAS instead of this effort that will not work. The best you can hope for would be an Allende type coalition which would require the cooperation of the GP. & produce low 30’s%. & the socialists would be better served by being in a caucus within the GP. So you are not getting away from the GP. We need an inclusive progressive movement that incluses libertarians. THAT vote would push the vote to about 40%.

Michael, here’s my honest opinion from the limited amount of time I was on the listserv about this: it’s going nowhere fast. After a short time it descended into bickering and seems to be exactly like the Green Party, but with less people. If you can prove me wrong, good for you, but I don’t have much hope for that.

Most of us are former Greens. Some are even current Greens. Liz Arnone is a former Green Party National Co-Chair, I am a former Green party candidate for US Senate in Minnesota and former National GP Delegate. Most of us have left the Green Party.
We are not interested in the least in arguing with the GP.
We are far too busy organizing.
How about less splinter groups and uniting progressives under the Green Party?
Nader’s runs in 2004 and 2008 only hurt the Green Party because running as a independent accomplishes nothing for ballot access. The votes he got could have gone for the Greens or maybe SPUSA’s candidates to push them closer to a percentage that matters for some minor party thresholds. He should have ran for the House or Senate while endorsing and supporting progressives that were running as well.
