We need to book a sufficient number of rooms by May 6, so that the LP isn’t charged a large penalty by the convention hotel. Additionally, after May 6, the hotel might release some of our unbooked rooms to the general public in phases. Convention package sales are coming in strong, and this is looking like it will be a well-attended and exciting convention. But again, we need to increase the number of hotel rooms booked.
Even if you are unsure whether you will attend, if there’s a chance you will attend, please go ahead and reserve a room. You can always cancel it later. Check with the hotel for exact cancellation policies.
In case you noticed and were wondering, we have updated the design of the convention website.
I hope you’ll purchase a Gold Package or Silver Package for the convention today. Please reserve a room in the convention hotel too.

I talked to some friends of Catholic Trotskyist today. It is rumored that he will be showing up at the Libertarian convention. Not sure what his hotel room situation is.

JT @26, He was not a revered state legislator…He was virtually unknown. Why HIM as keynote speaker. Because he was being catapulted to the Senate & presidency by Kennedy et al. They already did the research etc. He was selected long before. He doesn’t have dreds, does he? Happily married-CHRISTIAN etc. They KNEW if he fudged his way as a “progressive” by voting to the left of Biden, he would get the progressive vote which is VERY substantial in the democratic party. They & the liberals & blacks would ALL vote for him, edging out Clinton & the blue dogs.

And the delegation numbers were set at the end of October 2009, not December 2009 this go around. That is what I was told.

It all depends on how many they send. Ohio for instance is a joke and never sends anyone, yet they could be the 4th largest delegation.
States with the largest national LP membership, as of (I think) 12/31/2009 were CA, TX, FL, NY, OH, VA, PA, IL, CO and MI. CA and TX were by far the largest.
California. Texas. Georgia. Colorado is decent size. Indiana. New York.
Which ones am I forgetting? I can’t seem to find the delegate allocation from last convention.
If you are a AAA member you can get a room for $95/night, but you have to pay when you reserve. If you are virtually certain that you will attend, that’s the best deal. At least, the best I could find.

Maybe the LP convention would have some more well-known speakers if they had the extra funds to cover it. Too many people on the cheap, so the convention lives within the registration fees. I would like to have John Stossel the Judge sometime. Maybe a state LP can pull that off.

I am not. I am a strict pro-state conservative, which is why I no longer speak to Catholic Trotskyist.

I talked to some friends of Catholic Trotskyist today. It is rumored that he will be showing up at the Libertarian convention. Not sure what his hotel room situation is. It is rumored that he is endorsing John Myers for chair. Not sure why though.
Actually, I miscalculated. My numbers were based on $119 per person per night, so they are high on the hotel rates for 2 or more persons. But the point still stands, because even with a better presumption of 40 extra per person per night, the differences still come out the same, because the totals change consistently.
With the $119 vs. $109 deal, it now becomes readily obvious why the floor fee rebate scam was insane: save $10 over the room rate to get $50 back on the floor fee–for only one person. The savings for the room vs. the floor fee cost after rebate over 5 days was a break-even amount–for one person.
1-person amounts:
109×5 + 49 = 594
119×5 + 99 = 694
Now, one can spend the extra $10, or not, attend for free, and save $99.
109×5 + 0 = 545
119×5 + 0 = 595
By ditching the floor fee, a single attendee saves $50 with the room block or breaks even ($1 diffrence) without it.
For more than one person, the savings becomes more significant, by $49 a person between the regular rate without the floor fee and the block rate with the floor fee. With just the block rates with and without the floor fee and rebate, the savings is even larger, up to $346 for a family of four. (Presuming a 5-night stay, Thursday night through Monday night) Every dollar counts.
The net result for the floor fee was that it wound up costing delegates more money out-of-pocket, even with the “great deal” of $10 savings on the room block and the ridiculous rebate.
That certainly isn’t making the convention delegate-friendly, and it shows what a cost-benefit analysis of this provides that should have been done a long time ago.
The hotel web site offers rooms at $119, while the “liblibs” deal is $109. Not much savings there. The Hampton Inn and the Drury Inn down the street quote $109, and the Holiday Inn around the corner quotes $111.
Note also for a 5-night stay there’s about $100 in taxes on top of the basic rate.
One of these years they’ll realize in organizing these things that the room block idea is a money-loser.

So now I would like to go to the convention on my way to CA. My friend is hesitant to try to do what we previously planned but there is another guy-his old friend who I have met several times. Former Navy diver so we were teaching him hooka placer mining. I could possibly hook up with him. But I am maxed out & depressed & received $0 in political contributions or personal assistance from my websites. They are now all down.
I tried contacting Steve Kubby. My friend said Santa Cruz or Mendocino County where Kubby was would be good locations. Kubby said he couldn’t help.
So I had to move as I was evicted by the real estate crook. Really. I Googled him & he is a lawyer & convicted & had complaints. I could only afford the trailer park nearby & moved into a 50 year old trailer previously owned by drug addicts. I had built up credit with credit card use with the computer but have maxed that out. I tried to start 2 businesses with a friend in CA but he got ADEM-acute disseminating encephalomylitis & is still recovering. He is an experienced expert in gold mining and making jewelry from gold. & we wnted to get involved in medical mj.
One big difference between me & my father is that he got married. I never did. & he got a job! A career as a certified welder. I basically tried to go to college & failed. Then I got on SSI when that program just started & have been on that since. He never seemed interested in teaching me welding or going into business. He got lump sum pension upon retirement & medical insurance. He was lucky. His brother, my uncle, was a Marine & died recently. The company he worked for went out of business just before his retirement & as I understand it-he lost his pension.
I have explained about my computer & service. I have ATT laptop connect which I really can’t afford. I just got a used laptop but made a deal with my webby who owns a computer store. Evidently he needed travel cash to go to Pakistan so he accepted partial payment which he NEVER did before. & I have Vonage Vphone. I had MagicJack but the service was really terrible. It was very convenient to directly plug a regular phone into a computer though.

Sara, thank you for asking. I hesitate to explain further because it is largely family dynamic. However I did try to get legal assistance. I failed because I could not afford an attorney retainer from the County referral service. & NJ does not provide legal assistance for the indigent except a Hotline. see: http://www.lsnj.org One way of looking at it is I have my father’s chronic depression. He has had ECT & takes medication. I have not so far & have developed a plan that I should not have to under certain circumstances which I have been unable to arrange. He is afraid of her because she has had him committed which I opposed. But he seems to choose her over me because she has financial security & a nice home with room for him. She sold his condo & the duplex I was living in. She works for the County & makes about $50,ooo/yr. I did try to file a pro se in forma pauperis civil action in Surrogate Court but it got dismissed because I could not do it all myself.

I would like to go to this convention. Especially if it was a stop on my way to CA for the summer. I would be glad to help pay costs where I was able to stay. But it doesn’t look good. Right now I’m maxed out & struggling for my next meal. The inheritance may happen soon-maybe in May or June. Actually I should be doing well except my sister ruined my finances by selling my dad’s duplex to a real estate crook instead of me. She took over his finances & cut me out & he is afraid of her. The miracle inheritance is unfortunately too little too late. I’m still hoping to get some online campaign and/or personal assistance but I think my websites are down now.
Got my room. Will need people to split room costs. The room will definitely have at least two beds, and possibly a rollaway bed also, as well as floor space.
