Modern Whig Party message to supporters

To the members of the Modern Whig Party,

The Modern Whig Party pauses this Memorial Day weekend to recognize the sacrifice of our nation’s fallen, as well as the prime place in American society that our veterans and active/reserve service members hold.

The Modern Whig movement was revived by veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. Those veterans quickly built a growing national movement that was recognized as a viable and mainstream political phenomenon. Its moderate stance and common sense, rational approach quickly inspired a diverse array of Americans of all political stripes.

Since 2010 began, the party began building its infrastructure in order to scratch its way back into the mainstream conscience. This non-fringe approach was always designed to be realistic, methodical and gradual with an eye toward eventual longevity. However, countless members have clamored in recent months for the current wave of Modern Whig leaders to be more action oriented and “lead from the front.” Not surprisingly, these demands came largely from veterans — many of whom participated in the numerous 2008/2009 Whig gatherings that quietly took place overseas in places such as Iraq.

These concerns have been heard loud and clear. Various active duty, reserve component personnel, and veterans are joining with non-military individuals and regular voters to once again grab the reins of this historic movement.

The country needs a realistic non-fringe movement that values common sense, rationality as opposed to partisan bickering and ideology. The Modern Whig Party will continue to build and inspire.

As such, our members can expect to be kept in the loop in order to facilitate and encourage interaction and brainstorming with the tens of thousands of individuals who have subscribed to this movement’s moderate, common sense, and non-ideological principles. That simple aspect of the party was what propelled the organization to its status as a viable movement in 2008/2009 when local and national media was calling its leaders seemingly every week. In fact, the Modern Whigs were even accused of being “astroturf” by various fringe or ideological groups due to the Whig movement’s propensity for mainstream coverage. Activity reached its pinnacle in 2009 as party leaders were overwhelmed with activity. Since the party was and continues to operate without big names or big budgets, it was necessary to focus on infrastructure in order to take this moderate movement to the next level. But our members wanted more action, and the time has come to begin leading from the front.

The modern incarnation of the Whigs was founded on the principles of the following US Army acronym: LDRSHIP. This stands for Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.

That foundation guides our actions as we pursue a non-ideological national movement within the confines of our general tenets. But this isn’t the party of any group of people. It’s yours. Let us know your thoughts. Let us know what you expect. Give us your ideas. Even the small act of engaging in how to build and grow a movement such as this will empower everyone else involved.
