Press Release: Green US Senate candidate LeAlan Jones ‘to salute “faithful fathers”‘ at dinner

CHICAGO, IL (June 20, 2010) — US Senate candidate LeAlan Jones, a legal guardian for his teenage nephew, will celebrate Fathers’ Day at a special dinner for the Pine Forge Academy Foundation.

Fatherless is an epidemic, particularly in my community,” said the southside Chicago native. “By celebrating those fathers who honor their commitment, we can inspire those who find that role more challenging.”

Jones, who is now at 14% in the latest PPP poll, took legal guardianship of two of his male relatives in 2002 and has been raising them ever since. His youngest boy, Bobby, is currently the star quarterback at Simeon Career Academy.

For too long, our economy has kept fathers, and mothers, away from their families because the cost of living requires folks to work more hours,” added Jones. “I want to end that trend by rebuilding sustainable neighborhoods and grow our community wealth.”

Jones’ platform calls for one year paid parental leave for mothers and fathers so parents can spend time during that critical first year of a child’s life. Other positions like his support for single-payer health care, free preschool and higher education, and replacing check cashing predators with credit unions will help ease the financial burden on today’s families.

WHAT: Pine Forge Academy Foundation presents “A Special Tribute to Faithful Fathers”

WHERE: Alhambra Palace Restaurant, 1240 West Randolph Street, Chicago, IL

WHEN: Sunday June 20, 2010 6:30-9:30pm (LeAlan’s speech is scheduled during the first hour)
