Mark Rutherford at Libertarian Party blog:
It is State Fair time in the Midwest and the Libertarian Party has quite a presence at these events.
The Libertarian Party of Ohio has a booth at the Ohio State Fair through August 8th.
The Libertarian Party of Missouri has a booth at the Missouri State Fair from August 11th through August 22nd. Click here to see a YouTube clip of the Missouri Libertarians in action at their State Fair booth in 2008.
The Libertarian Party of Illinois has a booth at the Illinois State Fair from August 13th through August 22nd.
The Libertarian Party of Marion County (Indianapolis) is working at the Jaycees’ Corn Booth at the Indiana State Fair on August 15th.
It’s a great time to be a Libertarian!

Great job, Kevin! I wish I could have attended but a last minute emergency trip to CA prevailed for family reasons.
“Ohio agrees with Kentucky Bourbon man # 7.” From Ohio’s Kentucky Bourbon man: don’t feed the trolls!
Way to go Kevin!
Just finished 12 straight days at the Ohio State Fair. 36 shifts of 2 people each, with 26 LP members working the booth. 700,000 was the attendance.
this, the “sheep” problem has been around WAY longer than BHO. He’s just the latest manifestation. IMO.
The good news is that McCain/Palin don’t have the football.

This is priceless. Maybe we should have this in our booth for people to watch, Then say time for Libertarians.
LOL ROFLMAO
re # 12 Kevin please consider doing an article for the national news letter on Ohio’s work in this area.
Very true.
For some tips on how to prep for an outreach booth and work within an organization structure, go to http://www.lpo.org and click on the “outreach” button on the left menu bar.
It works for the Ohio LPO. Nothing like having some reminder lists. And the Advocates does have a direct link from that site.
The Advocates have excellent booth manuals at their site. Keep up the good work!
You want Booths. Set-up at Fairs, RV Trade shows.
NASCAR booth, Football stadiums if you can. A lot of people goes to these places. I have very good ideas for Videos. However I am working with someone that is making them.
I worked at the fair at Orange County. Firstly the money was spent wasted on flower seed they passed out. It should have been spent on Banners for cars instead for example. 2ndly. The people didn’t say much who worked the booth, they just stood there most of the time being an introvert waiting for people to come to them. Oh Brother. (I don’t know if all of them did this, but the ones I have seen did) I tried to tell them to be more outgoing. You say something to get people to approach the booth. The last fair I worked I would say Hi, do you like government interfering with your life. If they say NO. Then I see how they react and work them to approach the booth, and I even got some to register LP that normally wouldn’t have after I explained things. I have found it mostly worked. If its a dumcrap. Most of those people say they are happy even though they are in denial. You have to feel the people out and what works. But you don’t stand there like a lump and do nothing.
The funniest thing when I worked the booth. A dumcrap from the dumcrap booth tried to tell me how great their party was and I said something that the dumcrap was doing and he was trying to obviously lie for his party when is was pretty black and white what was happening. I will say this. The LP booth was set-up looking very professional compared to the Dumcrap booth. The only thing that should have been added was a short video about what freedom means. Words alone is not enough. Sometimes you need Visual so it gets planted in ones mind.
Ohio agrees with Kentucky Bourbon man # 7.
The state of OHio is already broke, without adding to the debt with hi-speed rail which is a loser. Now if the government wants to jack up the price of gasoline to $10 a gallon, the story might be different. Not very libertarian.
Ohio LP inside the largest building on the Ohio state fairgrounds. This is the building with all the other PAC’s, government displays, and the GOP and DEM. LP booth looks nicer than the GOP booth– more professional. I see better looking GOP booths at county fairs than I do at this state fair in Ohio .
1/2 way thru the Ohio State fair and no problems. Everyone is showing up for their shifts. Shift # 1 is 10am to 2:30pm; shift # 2 is 2pm to 6:30 pm; and shift # 3 is 6pm to 9pm.
We wanted a booth at our state fair, but we were told it’s sold out. I’m trying to find out more.
And the shameless Green party plugging – Dude, Greens and Libertarians agree on the problems, but we fundamentally disagree on the solution. Greens think more government with the “right people” in charge can fix things; Libertarians know that government is what created 90% of these problems and the more power you give them, the worse it gets.
Libertarians at state fairs should all join the Green Party. Then they can bring the great Green Party ideas to state fairs, and work within the Green Party to increase Green Party conservative activism throughout the land. Great Green Party conservative libertarian issues like high-speed rail, the Green new deal, and green jobs projects, are likely to attract many great Green Party supporters, like in the great Green Party countries Germany, Ireland and France.
[a] and Libs never got around to getting a foot hold in Sandy Ego County’s ‘Del Mar Fair’ just an hour’s drive [I -5] south
[b] may be non SoCals do not know that Orange County [California] and Chapman College / University and the O C Register are NATIONAL centers of LibThot
[c] no Lib presence for almost a decade ever March at [San Diego County’s] Balboa Park for the week end long anti war picnic – demo – fiesta. But as some one whom has fought tooth and nail to get Libs and American Independent Party invited to dinner, let me put the blame where it belongs: Peace and Freedom Socialists and Feminists, greenies and the #&@%#$@ Democratic Party!
[d] think of all the citizens with a Lib stripe or two whom have been shoo’d away by the infinite debating society.
[e] While Calielus burns, Roma debates
[f] While the fascist global American empire crumbles LP ………..
[g] ” Whoops. Same thing seems to be happening throughout the California LP. Apathy. The fish rots from the head. Hmmm ….….” stolen word for word from Don Lake
Bruce any reason given?
Long time ago I learned that you can’t sell what you don’t have on display. Fairs, Farmer’s Mkts, etc. are great ways to get the word out.
The Orange County Libertarian Party, one of the largest, and one of the highst density LP County Affiliates in the country…
Gave up on their Orange County Fair booth.
They just blew it off.
So, in theory, they can never get it back.
That’s a shame, because for decades, it was the single biggest and most results generating event of any type.
More new members, more new volunteers, more new LP Registered Voters, more contacts, usually than every other event or effort combined for the whole year.
For many LPOC Members, this is the one thing they looked forward to every year, and the one and only thing they got involved with.
Whoops.
Same thing seems to be happening throughout the California LP.
Apathy. The fish rots from the head.
Hmmm….
Ohio
36 shifts over the 12 days and 26 volunteers, including the entire slate of statewide candidates working a couple days each. The key is the presentation: keep it professional, targeted, crisp, concise, and neat.
Exactly what the LP should be doing! Way to go!
