Jim Libertarian Burns: ‘Do you want Senator Harry Reid defeated?’

Email from Jim Burns, a Libertarian for President 2012:

Dear Paul,

Do you want Senator Harry Reid defeated?

You can take action that will increase the
chances that Reid will not be re-elected.

No matter how much money Sharron Angle
spends there are some votes that she will not
receive. However, if someone else who is on
the ballot makes a different appeal, they may
receive votes that otherwise would have gone
to Reid: especially, if the appeal is directed at
people who are not conservative. There is good
reason to believe that the election may be decided
by a few hundred votes. If a few hundred votes
that would have gone to Harry go to a candidate
of a minor party rather than Harry, then the odds
of a Reid victory are reduced.

If postcards are sent to only registered democrat voters
asking them to vote for a candidate from a minor party,
some of them will do so. To be successful, we need to
persuade a small percentage of these voters to vote for
a minor party candidate: These are votes that would have
gone to Reid, therefore, reducing his vote total. I have
designed such a postcard.

My cost for postcards, printed 2 sided, addressed to an
active registered democrat voter, and with attached 28 cent
postage stamp is 50 cents each: that is ready-to-mail (An
additional cost that must be paid is delivery cost. I will pay
this if needed and I am able).

A cheaper way is to do most of the work yourself or with
friends: My cost for mailing labels with the name and an
address of an active registered democrat voter is 3 cents
per label. I will send you a postcard. You may shop around
and get the cheapest price for printing copies of my postcard
of the same or better quality. Have the postcards printed; buy
the US postcard stamps (28 cents each); buy the labels from
me: place the labels and stamps on the proper location on the
postcard, then post them.

I want Senator Reid defeated. So, I will sell at my cost the
first 50,000: Buy it either way: 50 cents each or 3 cents for
labels. Buy them for yourself or if you know someone, who
does not like Harry, show them the postcard, tell them the plan,
and sell them the postcards for whatever you can get above your
cost. Make a profit for yourself.

Send me your US mailing address and I’ll send you a sample postcard.

Sincerely,

Jim Burns

I don’t much believe in this “votes that would’ve gone to…” stuff, cuz I think it’s mostly a matter of folks who would’ve not voted, or who’d maybe write in or vote for neither.
Is anybody else running? LP fielded nobody, right? …has the ballot access boat been missed? Is Sharon Angle any better?

  2. Bruce Cohen

Yeah Sharon is certainly better than Harry by a long shot. She’s also been friendly to Libertarians, as far as I know, but some Nevada LPers could correct me maybe.

    Let’s upset Harry’s apple cart.

  3. Erik G.

Once again, Bruce has some very confused views on libertarianism.

Sharron Angle’s been friendly to Libertarians? In what way? Was it her view that…

…gay people shouldn’t be allowed to adopt children?
…teachers should be allowed to openly pray and discuss their beliefs in public schools?
…abortion should be illegal, even in the case of rape or incest?
…laws should outlaw the production and sale of pornography?
…the doctrine of church and state separation is unconstitutional?
…marijuana should not be legal in any form?
…alcohol should be illegal (of all things)?
…the We The People Nevada PAC’s views, a PAC which Angle was a ‘proud’ past chairwoman of, are acceptable when they decry gays as part of the “radical homosexual movement”?
…inmates should go through a rehabilitation program designed by L. Ron Hubbard?
…there should be a Federal Marriage Amendment to discriminate against gay marriage?

And that’s just a small sample of her nuttiness – it doesn’t even touch her views on immigration, foreign policy, etc., which I would argue are out of touch with most Libertarians. Please, Bruce, enlighten us as how to how she’s even close to lining up with Libertarian views. What, she wants to lower taxes? Perhaps you’ve forgotten that there’s more to being a libertarian than that.

This is all not to mention the widely-speculated view that she’s likely a Christian Reconstructionist.

Lake on Cohen: ask him [as an American] about Israel’s role in the world; also the Israeli murder of US sailors on the non combatant USS Liberty …….. also ‘I am not an open borders Libertarian ………..

Lake on Phillies: did you know that George considers the Libs as the one and only 21st Century Peace Party

    Lake on Knapp: same

    Lake on W. A. R. : Well ………

    Even if they’re Muslim? LOL

    Is anybody else running?

As far as I know Reid, Angle and NOTA are the only ballot listed candidates, all others are write-ins.

    LP fielded nobody, right? …

    Yes.

has the ballot access boat been missed?

    Not sure what you mean.

    Is Sharon Angle any better?

As usual with D/R-oids, better on some issues, worse on others.

Bruce: “She’s also been friendly to Libertarians, as far as I know, but some Nevada LPers could correct me maybe.”

Who cares if a candidate has been “friendly to Libertarians”? Republican candidates are often friendly to Libertarians–because they don’t want a Libertarian candidate in their race. Unfortunately, Libertarians sometimes fall for that tactic. Ooh, a prominent Republican candidate came to our meeting and spoke to us…lucky day! We’re being taken seriously!

Unless a candidate IS libertarian, it means nothing. And looking at Eric G.’s list, Angle clearly is NOT. I don’t see how her staunch social conservatism is better than Reid’s staunch economic liberalism.

  8. Ok correction

HAAA HAAAA I know some of you people do not know Sharron Angle. HAAA HAAA. First off, we do have to get rid of Harry Reid. Sharron right now is the way to go. Because we do not have a sure win for anyone else and I CERTAINLY DON’T WANT HARRY CRAP SOCIALIST REID>

As far as Sharron Views, from what I understand, she will not force the abortion issues down our throats, it is what she believes for herself. She want to work on the bigger issues, like the economy, taxes, the rest of the small stuff that the small minded people are worried about is not a major priority. As far as what the unmorally lefties = communism are worried about. Go move to Holland.

BRUCE COHEN STANDS CORRECTED. SO YOU PEOPLE CAN INSULT ME AS WELL. I making sure I am refering to #2

Some of the Stuff Erik @#3 referrs to. HAA HAAA. I know better, and I also know he doesn’t know Sharron personally. You believe everything that the liberal media puts out. Maybe you people could get an education and watch unedited video of Sharron Angle from the Las Vegas paper would be a start.

And bottom line. I don’t care what Gays do in their own home their life. But I am dam getting sick of it being in my face. The bottom line is. It takes a man and a woman to make a baby, that is how we are made that is it. This is what it is, reality. How the gays are judge is between them and G-d. Not me.

  9. JT

Ok: “I CERTAINLY DON’T WANT HARRY CRAP SOCIALIST REID”

Unless Reid is agitating for a total state takeover of private businesses and central planning of the economic system, he’s not a state socialist; he’s an economic liberal.

  10. Jimmy Clifton

Why are Angle’s views “nuttiness” because you may not agree with her? How Libertarian is that? For the record, I don’t agree with everything she stands for either.

  11. @11

You don’t have a clue, you are clueless. I won’t be explaining something to someone who is clueless.

  12. JT

“You don’t have a clue, you are clueless. I won’t be explaining something to someone who is clueless.”

Spoken like someone who can’t defend what he said.

  13. Sally Sue Voter

Burns was boo’d out of the NV state convention. He has sued the party, cost us time, money, patience and all kinds of problems. (Gee, like we’ve never seen this before in da’ family!)
No decent candidate presented themselves. Nobody recd. a nomination. Further independents couldn’t get the money together or chose not to file.

Watch anything that comes out of Burns mouth and give it the weight of a feather. Better yet, run the other way!

Hell, if he wants to go after the Dems, let em’. People have already started complaining about Harry trying to steal the election w/ the dead rising to vote, longtime voters suddenly no longer registered or w/ another party and of course – the classic – dead rising to vote.

    next!
