Texas Libertarios Tour The Lonestar State

From Libertarios of America:

Texas Libertarios co-founder Robert Butler will be touring South and West Texas next week from Saturday, Dec. 4th to Thursday, Dec. 9th recruiting candidates for the local elections in May, organizing local Libertarios, and educating voters on the principles of liberty.

Texas Libertarios is comprised of Hispanics from all across Texas, from all walks of life, with diverse heritages – from multigenerational to first generation citizens, who have become disillusioned with the two-party system and disappointed in both the Republican and Democratic Parties.  While they focus on Latino issues and perspectives, anyone who shares these views is welcome to join the group or become endorsed as a candidate.

“Republicans and Democrats are doing a poor job representing Latino voters in Texas,” said Libertarios Treasurer Robert Butler.  “Only the Libertarian Party has serious solutions to the problems along the southern border:  immigration, crime, and drug trafficking.  And now is the time to implement these solutions.”

Texas Libertarios support the platform of the Libertarian Party which calls for the federal government to issue visas for every peaceful person who seeks to work inside the United States.  Libertarios also call for the end of drug prohibition.

“The insecurity of Texans along the southern border is directly related to the prohibition of drugs.  We all recognize that alcohol prohibition created Al Capone and the American mafia, that’s exactly what drug prohibition is creating along our border.  We need the crime and violence to end… we need to legalize drugs to remove the criminal profit motive.  Legalizing immigration will also end human smuggling.  These two issues are connected,” said Butler.

Texas Libertarios will participate in a Chili Cook-off on December 4th in Seguin to support Libertarian candidate Tony Gergely for the House District 44 special election.  They will be in Brownsville and McAllen on Sunday Dec. 5th, Laredo on Dec. 6th, San Antonio on Dec. 7th, and El Paso on Dec. 9th to recruit candidates, meet with local leaders, and support the growth of their organization.

Robert Butler recently resigned from his post as Executive Director of the Libertarian Party of Texas. He originally took that post after his predecessor, Wes Benedict, became Executive Director of the national Libertarian Party. Texas Libertarios is an awesome idea. I hope other states and/or national pick up on it.
