Reform Party of NJ Defends New Jersey Network
(Long Branch, NJ, 12/29/2010): Jacob Zychick, the chairman of the recently formed Reform Party of New Jersey, has come to the defense of the New Jersey Network, the statewide news agency whose sustainability has been questioned by Trenton leadership. At a meeting of Reform Party activists in Long Branch on December 28th, Zychick voiced his support for NJN, touting it as the state’s primary media watchdog.
“NJN is the electorate’s watchdog,” said Zychick. “They keep viewers informed as to what is happening in Trenton and throughout our great state. Without NJN our state will rely on coverage from news organizations in Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley, and New York City.”
The Reform Party of New Jersey was first conceived in 2009 by a group of student activists seeking to form a viable alternative to the two major parties. The party is the successor to the original NJ Reform Party, which was founded in the wake of independent Ross Perot’s presidential bid in 1992.
While the original NJ Reform Party was dissolved in 2000, the new organization has made great strides over the past year, even sending members to Dallas to meet with national party leadership (and Ross Perot) in October 2010. Zychick, a Farleigh Dickinson student activist, who was elected chairman at the party’s founding convention last summer, acknowledged that major overhauls are needed in Trenton, but dismissed the idea that NJN was expendable as “sheer nonsense.”
“Changes must be made in Trenton,” said Zychick. “But the removal of NJN should not be an option. It makes sense that our elected officials would not want a watchdog to monitor their overall naughty behavior, but the people of this great state must stay informed!”
Zychick encouraged all Reform Party activists to tune their television to NJN in a symbolic display of support.

TRENTON — Assembly Transportation Committee Chairman John Wisniewski said he plans to hold a hearing on the state’s response to last week’s blizzard some time late this month.
Wisniewski said he wants to know why large sections of some state highways, such as Route 18, were left unplowed, and plans to ask state Transportation Commissioner James Simpson to testify.
“Was it a personnel issue? Was it an equipment issue? Was it a lack of planning issue? Was it an issue that we were overwhelmed by the forces of mother nature?
I don’t know,” said Wisniewski. “Why were some municipalities able to dig themselves out and the state wasn’t?”

Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) is the state Democratic chairman.
The snowstorm gave way to a political storm last week, as Democrats criticized Republican Gov. Chris Christie and Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno for both being out of state as the snow was falling.
Christie spent the week at Disney World with his family, and Guadagno was on a cruise ………
