Northern Vice-Chair Report 6/18/11 06/21/2011
Video of my report given at the 6/18/11 ExComm Meeting in Ventura
Summary of the LPCA Executive Committee Meeting 6-18-11 06/20/2011
This past weekend I was in Ventura attending the executive committee meeting, put on by the Ventura County Libertarian party. The meeting started around 10:15 with a welcome given by at-large member Dana McLorn of the Ventura County Libertarian party. Most of the executive committee was in attendance with the exception of Paul Darr, an at-large member and Brian Darby, the state party treasurer.
After the roll call our chairman Kevin Takenaga held a moment of silence for the first Libertarian party presidential candidate John Hospers. John Hospers ran for president back in 1972, he was 93 when he passed.
The minutes from the last executive committee meeting were approved. Hopefully they’ll be up on the website very soon.
Then we went straight into officer reports. Kevin Takenaga the current chair gave the first report through PowerPoint presentation. The southern vice chair Matthew Boomer Shannon gave his presentation to PowerPoint followed by my presentation. I plan on creating a voice over video presentation of my PowerPoint that should be available on this website by the end of the week. Lauren Hilton, the secretary gave a brief update. followed by Brian Darby who gave his treasurers report by phone.
Then we took a break for lunch. After lunch we were given a convention proposal presentation by the Ventura County Libertarian Party. The verbal presentation was accompanied by a full-color binder showcasing Ventura’s accommodations, dining and entertainment, transportation, as well endorsements from the Ventura County coalition of labor agriculture and business, the citizens alliance for property rights and the Ventura County Tea Party. it also included their vision to make the 2012 libertarian party convention the best convention yet and a plan to gain media exposure.
After the presentation Gale Morgan motioned to vote on having the 2012 California Libertarian party convention in Ventura. The motion was seconded. A few members expressed their concern that the vote was premature because there were other county parties that were going to submit bids for the 2012 convention. But because there was only nine months left until the convention the executive committee went ahead with the vote and it was decided that the 2012 convention is to be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ventura California.
Because of the confusion about submitting bids and the approval process for future convention locations the executive committee voted to implement a process for the 2013 convention. All proposals for the 2013 convention must be submitted by the third quarter executive committee meeting and the decision will be made on the 2013 convention at the fourth-quarter executive committee meeting.
The next item on the agenda was the bylaws committee appointments. Five party members were elected to the bylaws committee: Mitchell Miller of Los Angeles County, Sean Fox of San Diego County, Gail Morgan of Sacramento County, Richard Vanier of Contra Costa County and Cory Nott of Contra Costa County.
After the elections I was able to discuss my fundraising plan which will also be outlined in the video PowerPoint presentation I’m putting together and Dana McLorn, channeling his inner Michael Badnarik, spoke about his strategic vision for the California Libertarian Party. Which I wholeheartedly agree with.
After that, we discussed the candidates support committee and the need for a new treasurer. Gale Morgan graciously offered to fill the position.
For the sake of time there was a handful of other items that did not get discussed hopefully these items will be addressed the next executive committee meeting.
