After the 2011 Annual National Meeting in Alfred, NY 4 weeks ago the talk started up about Jill Stein. Her name had been brought up a number of times (and included in some Green Polls) but apparently at the ANM a number of influential Greens encouraged Dr. Stein to run. Jill Stein is a Physician, Co-Chair of the Massachusetts Green Rainbow Party, and a veteran campaigner. She has run for Governor twice (2002, 2010), Secretary of the Commonwealth (2006, she received over 350,000 votes for 18%), as well as running (and winning) at local office.
In addition to her activities in support of the Green Party, Jill Stein has a reputation for practical scholarship and advocacy on the issue of relations between toxicity and human development across the lifespan. A doctor, she is involved in the leadership of Physicians for Social Responsibility and is one of four authors of the report “In Harm’s Way” linking poor brain development to environmental pollutants like mercury and lead, and also co-author of “Environmental Threats to Healthy Aging”, regarding the effect of pollutants on dementia and other problems of aging. Stein’s candidacy would bring something new to the 2012 presidential contest, to be held between a Republican who favors corporate interests over public health and a Democrat who… favors corporate interests over public health.

A Stein candidacy would be a major boost for the sane (meaning non-9/11 truther) left.
