Opportunity for Third Party & Independent Candidates in Louisiana

Source:  ThirdPartyPolitics.us

Update:  Richard Winger of Ballot Access News just pointed out to me that unfortunately the filing deadline has passed.  The election is in October.  Oops.  I guess the headline should have read, “Missed Opportunity for Third Party & Independent Candidates in Louisiana”.

There is a great opportunity in Louisiana right now for third party and Independent candidates to enter into State Senate and State House races, where there has been only one candidate who has filed to run.

As reported today by Ballot Access News:

Louisiana elects all its state legislators next month. All legislators in both houses get four-year terms. In the 38 State Senate races, according to this story, only one person filed in 20 races. In the 100 State House races, only one person filed in 41 races.

Currently, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State website, the Green Party, Libertarian Party and Reform Party are recognized political parties in the state. See here.

Here are links to the third parties in Louisiana:

Note: the only 2011 Louisiana third party candidates as listed on the above parties websites are Scott Lewis, Libertarian Party candidate for Governor (Election date is November 19, 2011) and Autumne Bankovic, Green Party candidate for Justice of the Peace, Ward 3, Parrish Caddo (Election date is October 22, 2011).

Not too late to change it.
