ThirdPartyPolitics.us Interview with Brendan Kelly, Libertarian Party Candidate for New Hampshire State Representative, Rockingham District 14

Brendan Kelly is the Libertarian Party candidate for New Hampshire State Representative, Rockingham District 14 in the special election on September 6, 2011.

ThirdPartyPolitics.us: Why are you running for State Representative in New Hampshire?

Brendan Kelly: I’ve been running for State Rep. because we need to change the direction our country is going and we’ll only do that by choosing change from the bottom up.

ThirdPartyPolitics.us: What are some of your top priorities and things you hope to achieve if elected?

Brendan Kelly: Like most states NH has a spending problem. We have between 3.5 and 5.5 billion dollars unfunded pension liability that no one wants to talk about. I plan on calling this to the attention of the voters and the other elected officials that kicking the can down the road has to stop.

ThirdPartyPolitics.us: Would you like to tell the voters your qualifications and experience?

Brendan Kelly: I got started in my political quest at the 2006 LP Convention when I became convinced we could be a political party if we gave up being critics and actually ran for office on our principles. This got me elected Chair of LPNH and running for Selectman in Seabrook, I lost in 06 but got elected in 07 and re-elected in 2010. I lost in 08 and 2010 in the State Rep elections.

ThirdPartyPolitics.us: How is your campaign going? How has it been received? What has it accomplished so far?

Brendan Kelly: Well I’ve discovered that a special election is quite different. The only people interested enough to actually show up and vote are those who either love you or hate you. In addition to that we have the issue of right to work thrown into the mix. I favor it and both my opponents are against it. They have sent out mail to the district pointing this out. It seems to be the most talked about issue.

ThirdPartyPolitics.us: Have there been any debates with you in it?

Brendan Kelly: I’ve been in the debates we hold for our Selectmens races but none has been called for in our state rep races thus far.

ThirdPartyPolitics.us: Have there been any polls for the race your in?

Brendan Kelly: Haven’t seen any polls but plenty of press coverage.

ThirdPartyPolitics.us: With the election so near, can you provide any information about how people can support your campaign?

Brendan Kelly: It’s pretty near show time and not a great economy to be fund raising. I had intended to not raise any funds but then someone sent me a contribution and I saw how much was spent on the primary, I realized my personal $1000 commitment wouldn’t go very far. Fortunately the Right to work people have done two mailings supporting me and I did a mailing to the towns out side Seabrook to regular voters who were republicans or independents. I’m in hope that I’ll have more people to show up and hold my signs this time as I have more than just libertarian support with conservative republicans calling for my support. I have a contribution link on my web site www.brendankellylpnh.com. Also my book “Enough is Enough the Truth Will Set US Free” has gone to the printer and can be ordered on my site as soon as my computer guy gets the link put up. It can be ordered at all major book sellers and the e-book is out on kindle from Amazon.
