Politico Publishes Americans Elect Article by Prominent Moderates

The noteworthy thing about this Politico article on Americans Elect is who the authors are, David Boren, Christine Tood Whitman and William Cohen. Here is a sample:

If the party leaders ignore these serious challenges, then it is time for the voters to consider another alternative in this presidential election. One option may be offered by Americans Elect.

This group has set up a process to hold an on-line convention to select the first bipartisan presidential ticket in U.S. history. Registered Democrats, Republicans and independents will be eligible to participate. The ticket candidates for president and vice president would be required to be from different parties.

For example, a Democrat and Republican would run as a team. If elected, they could form a truly bipartisan cabinet and administration.

Americans Elect will likely obtain the petition signatures needed to place a bipartisan ticket on the ballot in all 50 states this November. Millions of Americans have already signed the petitions. A victory by this ticket with this approach could be the “shock therapy” needed to get the two party system working again.

It all sounds good but who really calls the shots regarding the nominees? I have serious doubts given the folks who have put up the money for this effort. I also doubt the “shared sacrifice” rhetoric. Color me suspicious.

Use this AE to your advantage ! In any state that doesn’t have down ticket ballot access, get on the ballot under this party and run a full scale LIBERTY campaign. Beat the basterds at their own game. Ballot access is a terrible thing to waste and these rich elites have plenty of it to spare. Use it for LIBERTY….

There is only one truly nonpartisan candidate who, if it gains a respectable amount of votes, would send the appropriate, non-spinnable message that needs to be sent. That candidate’s name is NONE OF THE ABOVE. Write it in.

3 dc, NOTA getting a substantial number of votes might send a message that the candidates on the ballot were unacceptable, I agree. I have a hard time imagining that that could happen, or that it’d be worth the effort of organizing a NOTA campaign.

As an individual, voting NOTA is the same as staying home. A protest-type candidate at least is FOR something.

The convention will be held in Bloomington, Minnesota [which is just south of Minneapolis. ]

The convention will be held August 3-5th.

The convention will include state chapter training, training in Whig philosophy and methodology, training in the Whig Roundtables and Q& A’s.

As of today, Buddy Roemer is the leading delcared AE candidate and he doesn’t have near the needed nomination numbers. Even undeclared draft support for Ron Paul is well below the need nomination numbers.
