Jack Doyle was the Mayor of Santee, California, for eight years. The city is situated in California 52nd Congressional District and Doyle is now running in the race to replace Rep. Brian Bilbray as an Independent.
Doyle said he is running for Congress because “we are at a tipping point in our country with both the economy and the level of our national debt.” He is running as an independent because “our two political parties have some good ideas but the extremes of each party are not allowing us to move toward constructive solutions.” To not become a special interests spokesman, Doyle said his campaign is not taking PAC donations.
He listed the three greatest issues affecting the 52nd District as job creation, tax reform and ending partisan gridlock.
His solutions for job creation are tax incentives for worker education and training; for tax reform he said revenue adjustments and securing Medicare and Social Security for future generations; and to end partisan gridlock said, “we must work together to find solutions to fix our economy and reduce the national debt.”
As for the U.S. tax system, Doyle said tax code loopholes need to be closed, the code needs to be fair for all and incentives provided for job creation. He wants the corporate tax rate reduced to attract business and jobs back to the U.S.
Regarding foreign oil dependence, “We need to pursue a meaningful energy independence policy,” he said. “This should include solar, wind and renewable resource incentives.” He said natural gas reserves could be a good future energy source for vehicles, factories and homes.
As for financial issues, Doyle said there needs to be a careful balance between a strong economy now and reducing the national debt for future economic health. He wants Social Security kept solvent for future generations and health care laws revised since they “are not working.”
He said it is too soon to tell if the U.S. government’s efforts to combat terrorism were worth the cost.
Doyle is also a retired Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve and is currently a businessman.

Jack Doyle is one of the very few honest men I have known in my life. To have entered politics and make things better than they were before you arrived is truly an accomplishment. I would vote for Jack if he ran for President or Dog catcher, because I know he would do his best to do it right.

There are some other Independents in this race who seem legit–including a physician.
John Stahl, the only other Republican (I think), is endorsed by the American Independent Party.
