Gary Johnson: The Elephants and Donkeys Deserve the Bird

The latest Gary Johnson youtube “ad”:

The blurb accompanying the ad:

Both parties are indistinguishable from one another. Both are keeping America broke. Both are keeping America at war. Both have trampled on the Constitution. And both are products of the same big money players that never change behind the scenes. It’s time to give the elephants and donkeys a little company. We the people are ready to let Washington know the TWO-PARTY IS OVER.

In other Gary Johnson news, today is the last day of the “money bomb” whose theme is getting Johnson “back off the mountain” by raising a dollar for every foot of his descent from Mt. Everest nine years ago this week (the money to “get him to the summit” was raised earlier). The following is in my email from campaign manager Ron Nielson:

Friends,

$11,000

That’s how far we have to go to reach the goal of our Mt. Everest Money Bomb!

A few days ago, to commemorate Gov. Gary Johnson’s successful summit of the world’s highest peak on May 30, 2003, we took on another challenge: An attempt to raise $1 for every foot Gov. Johnson had to climb to reach the top of Mt. Everest.

Thanks to a fantastic group of supporters, we not only met that challenge – we exceeded it. In a few short days, those supporters contributed MORE than the $29,035 needed to match the elevation of Everest’s peak. That was when one of our volunteers reminded us that a mountain climb isn’t complete until the climbers have made it safely back down.

Taking that to heart, and having reached the “summit” in our Money Bomb, we doubled our goal – and are well on our way to achieving it. But we’re not there yet.

As of this morning, we are $11,000 short of our $59,070 goal – a goal we have set to reach by tonight. So far, since the Money Bomb began a few days ago, almost 400 people have contributed. If you are one of those, THANK YOU! If not, today is the day. Go to www.garyjohnson2012.com and make sure we don’t fall short.

Whether is has been building a successful business from scratch, being elected governor of an overwhelmingly Democrat state when no one thought it could be done, or climbing Mt. Everest, Governor Gary Johnson is serious about achieving goals. Restoring Liberty and financial responsibility as guiding principles of American leadership is the most important goal he has ever set.

A huge part of achieving that goal is making certain we have the funding necessary to conduct a 50-state campaign over the next 5 months. Your contribution today is about much, much more than making our Everest Money Bomb a success. It is about making millions of Americans fully aware that their choices for President in November are not limited to the Democrat Obama and the Republican Romney.

It is about giving voice to the millions of Americans who want us out of wars we shouldn’t be fighting, who want the government out of bedrooms and boardrooms, and who know that trillion dollar deficits are simply unsustainable.

Your financial support is the key to delivering these messages to every corner of the nation. Go to www.garyjohnson2012.com , help make sure we achieve our goal – and more important, make an investment in real Liberty!

Thank you for your support,

Ron Nielson

P.S. Be sure to tune in Tuesday night to watch Governor Johnson on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. The invitation to be a guest on The Daily Show is yet another great sign of the momentum your support is creating!

Bumped this one over the duplicate/reminder post and the Wenzel thing; hopefully it will not get lost in all the Wenzel hubbub.

On the one hand, I am happy that Johnson keeps releasing new youtube ads every few days. I don’t recall Barr doing this. It means he is staying active online, where the majority of his activists are.

On the other hand, I think everyone here agrees that we are tired of the same song, and the same picture he uses of himself.

Wow! In some ways, I think this one works on much deeper levels. The whole play of rock, paper, scissors hand puppets has an elemental appeal. The fists and middle fingers seem appropriate, somehow. It tears away at the assumptions of what is the perceived status quo to reveal what’s REALLY going on.

I note that the subliminal message at 2:27 has changed: “It’s about the Constitution, stupid.”

I’m not sure how I feel about “stupid.” I guess it’s riffing of “It’s about the economy, stupid.”…I think I’m fine with it.

Color theory, cue words, profile picture, background motion, and music make this a very good marketing piece.

The viewer is forced to project their own voice on the words. Interactive marketing can work for him.

Condense and shorten these ads. Please! I love Gov. Johnson, but his ads are becoming very repetitive and really need to be focused and condensed into 30 second sound bites.

If any of you all are any good at making youtubes, how about taking what you like from these ads, taking out what you don’t like, and adding some stuff that you think may be better (music, candidate pictures etc).

I’m quoting Austin but it is not directed at him personally.

Some grassroots generated youtubes would be great.

IMO the best ones for Ron Paul all came from the grassroots.

Johnson is working with a very small team and not much money.

Personally I have never made a youtube but I am sure some people reading have.

Show ’em how it’s done and who knows, maybe they will use your stuff? If not, it could get spread around on the ‘net more than the “official” videos if other people agree with you that it is better.

This ad isn’t bad. He definitely needs a new song though–This one has been used too much and it sounds like it should be accompanying the closing montage of a nature documentary

One of the breakthroughs that revolutionized AM radio in the 1950s was the realization that only when everyone at the station was utterly sick of the music, had the average audience even begun to notice it.

This led to the birth of the Top-40 radio format. The DJs hated it. The ratings soared.

Not saying this music is the best, just that we will get sick of it long before the targeted viewer does.

If you have any skills in that area, you could try taking the existing video and if the sound is the only, or main, thing wrong with it from your perspective – put in a new soundtrack.

There are a lot of people who have suggestions on things that could be done better, but someone has to actually do them. From the available evidence, I’m guessing there are not a lot of resources for that.

And if you are like me and don’t know the first thing about making your own youtube videos, hopefully your suggestions will inspire someone who does – but it’s a lot less likely than if you are able and willing to do it yourself.

BTW, the $59,070 goal was reach this morning and we (meaning the campaign) has decided to continue the Money Bomb through his “The Daily Show” appearance tonight. I don’t know if they’ll be changing the splash page before then though.

Love the idea behind the add, I wish the middle finger and BS word wasn’t in there, however its a sign of the anger many Americans feel so its appropriate! An add with a middle finger is preffered to angry Americans getting violent, so its a good add. What I want to see is more concrete descriptions about how both dems and Reps (tea party Reps too!) voted to make every US citizen an enemy of the state unless proven innocent(NDAA-suspending Habius Corpus) and how there are fast track plans to fly steatlh drones over US population and how these drones are also armed! The creation of NorthCom-against the posse comitatus act, both parties are actually in favor of socialized medicine as it greatly expands gov’t control over the populace, how both parties were all to eager for coorporate bailouts of failed croonie institutions etc,. The American people need to understand how tyrannical both Dems and GOP have become and they need to be stopped!
