Gary Johnson: ‘This could be my last email’

Email from Our America Initiative:

Friends,

If you’ve been listening to the politicians and the national media for the past several weeks, you know that the budget sequester spending “cuts” President Obama and Congress came up with — as opposed to actually coming up with a budget — are taking effect today and may end life as we know it.

Planes will fall from the sky, our military will be dismantled, children will go hungry, and prisons will be emptied.

What a bunch of nonsense! Even with these massive “cuts”, the federal government will spend more money in 2013 than it did in 2012. ONLY in Washington does that constitute a cut.

Everything you need to know about the lies the White House, the media and, yes, many Republicans have been spreading about the sequester is summed up in this Reuters headline this morning: “U.S. stares down start of steep automatic budget cuts”.

Let’s be clear. There are NO cuts. There are only tiny reductions in the amount by which federal spending would otherwise grow this year. And those reductions only apply to the roughly one-third of government spending that is “discretionary”. It doesn’t include the other two-thirds made up of entitlements and interest on $16 trillion of debt.

As I point out in this op-ed in today’s Washington Times, if we eliminated ALL so called “discretionary” spending, the federal budget might almost be balanced.

Does that brutal truth mean the budget can’t be balanced? Of course not. But what it DOES mean is that the politicians are lying when they talk about reducing spending without dealing with entitlements like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. It can’t be done, and the hysteria over the sequester proves it. THAT is the moral of this story.

The Our America Initiative exists to tell these truths, and to mobilize Americans who see these absurd political games for what they are. If you agree with me that it’s time for a healthy dose of not just truth, but action, I hope you will join us. Your contribution will allow us to take the message of REAL spending reduction, economic freedom and liberty to the airwaves, to the Internet, and to events across the country.

Being ever the optimist, I actually believe the sun WILL rise tomorrow — despite the sequester. In fact, if the government is even a tiny bit smaller than it would be otherwise, maybe the sun will be a little brighter, and maybe we will be a little bit more free.

Thanks, as always, for your friendship and support for liberty!

breath of freedom with blow across this land.

I most fervently hope that you are here to lead us in the 2016 plebiscite. Defeat is temporary,

I don’t think it would be very difficult for you to cross the border to Mexico. THOUSANDS of Mexicans, Guatemalans and Dominicans do it every year.

Well, he Said this is NAZI GERMANY
    (his capitals, not mine) :>)

Forgive me if I presume that ANYWHERE (my caps) in the Americas would be preferable to Nazi Germany.

    Do you disagree?

I can’t agree or disagree, since I don’t know what that person meant.

Maybe he or she was referring to an emerging global government, or exaggerating for effect.

  5. FLAMETHROWING LIBERTARIAN !

“Entitlements”?! It’s truly sad when Gov doublespeak is used to cover for the world’s largest ponzi scheme and the Thieves and Liars in Wash DC and never forget it!! No one is entitled to ANY of your legally acquired income. F*%# the FRAUD that is called “entitlements”.

Get a real job in the private sector friend and STOP sucking off the Taxpayers all your scumbag lowlife !!! You are NOT entitled to someone elses money. No one OWES you an existense. YOU are responsible for yourself and ALL offsprings you bring into this world…..

LPUS Platform……2.10 Retirement and Income Security

Retirement planning is the responsibility of the individual, not the government. Libertarians would phase out the current government-sponsored Social Security system and transition to a private voluntary system. The proper and most effective source of help for the poor is the voluntary efforts of private groups and individuals. We believe members of society will become more charitable and civil society will be strengthened as government reduces its activity in this realm.

    Healthcare
    Making Healthcare Safe and Affordable

As recently as the 1960s, low-cost health insurance was available to virtually everyone in America – including people with existing medical problems. Doctors made house calls. A hospital stay cost only a few days’ pay. Charity hospitals were available to take care of families who could not afford to pay for healthcare.

Since then the federal government has increasingly intervened through Medicare, Medicaid, the HMO Act and tens of thousands of regulations on doctors, hospitals and health-insurance companies.

Today, more than 50 percent of all healthcare dollars are spent by the government.
Health insurance costs are skyrocketing. Government health programs are heading for bankruptcy. Politicians continue to pile on the regulations.

The Libertarian Party knows the only healthcare reforms that will make a real difference are those that draw on the strength of the free market.

The Libertarian Party will work towards the following:

    1. Establish Medical Saving Accounts.
Under this program, you could deposit tax-free money into a Medical Savings Account (MSA). Whenever you need the money to pay medical bills, you will be able to withdraw it. For individuals without an MSA, the Libertarian Party will work to make all healthcare expenditures 100 percent tax deductible.

    2. Deregulate the healthcare industry.
We should repeal all government policies that increase health costs and decrease the availability of medical services. For example, every state has laws that mandate coverage of specific disabilities and diseases. These laws reduce consumer choice and increase the cost of health insurance. By making insurance more expensive, mandated benefits increase the number of uninsured American workers.

    3. Remove barriers to safe, affordable medicines.

We should replace harmful government agencies like the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) with more agile, free-market alternatives. The mission of the FDA is to protect us from unsafe medicines. In fact, the FDA has driven up healthcare costs and deprived millions of Americans of much-needed treatments. For example, during a 10-year delay in approving Propanolol Propranolol (a heart medication for treating angina and hypertension), approximately 100,000 people died who could have been treated with this lifesaving drug. Bureaucratic roadblocks kill sick Americans.

@ 9 the Health Care issue you quote is historically inaccurate. You might wish to try something else.

    GP @ 10,

“undocumented cross-border movement is been a net million emigration in the last few years.”

Nobody knows how much undocumented cross-border movement has been. We can only guess. That’s what “undocumented” means.

    > “Nobody knows how much undocumented cross-border movement has been. We can only guess.”

    Correct!

    ” That’s what “undocumented” means.

Wrong! undocumented means “without permission”; like the ancestors of MOST Americans, ie, those “boat people who landed on Virginia Beach, Cape Cod and St. Augustine.
