I've been a contributor for IPR since January 2013. I consider myself to be a paleoconservative. I'm also the founder of American Third Party Report. Email me at [email protected].

“Radley Valko, formerly with the Cato Institute and Reason magazine and now with the Huffington Post, will speak about the police state. In addition, there will be a debate between neo-cons and liberals on foreign policy. ”
It’s Balko, not Valko. I’m a long time fan of his blog http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/the-agitator (formerly http://www.theagitator.com/ ) and just saw him speak at the Tennessee LP convention. He’s a dynamic speaker as well as an excellent writer, and I highly recommend other state LPs schedule him if/while they can.
Regarding the debate between “liberals” and neo-cons on foreign policy, I hope and trust that by liberals we mean non-interventionists. There is a strain of modern “liberalism” which supports foreign interventionism for allegedly humanitarian reasons. From my perspective, that is every bit as dangerous as foreign interventionism which is allegedly justified in any other way.
“Right before the November election, there were 1600 voters registered as Libertarians (in Iowa). As of February there are 2243, which is an encouraging increase”
This is happening all over the country, yet we have seen very little corresponding rise in dues paying LP membership, at least at the national level. We need to have a real discussion of how we can translate registration growth into dues paying membership growth, starting with taking a look at which states are having the best luck with this and why…….and seeing how we can apply their tactics at the national level as well as helping other states which are not doing as well, if possible.
