HARRISBURG PA – The Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania will hold their annual convention on Friday and Saturday, June 8-9, 2013, at the Harrisburg Hilton, One North 2nd Street, Harrisburg PA, 17101. In addition to important party business, the agenda for the event features several notable speakers, including nationally-acclaimed author Jim Bovard. “This promises to be the best LPPa convention in many a year,” promised convention organizer James Babb. “We have four great speakers lined up: Larken Rose, Ben Stone, National LP Executive Director Carla Howell, and one of my personal favorites, Jim Bovard. By capitalizing on the recent resurgence of the Libertarian philosophy now dominating the national scene, this convention will be laying the groundwork for even greater successes.”
The convention opens on Friday night at 7 PM with a welcome reception featuring Carla Howell, Executive Director of the national Libertarian Party, hosting the fun and informative “Who’s Driving?’, a game she created for training Libertarian candidates and activists about how to cut through big government rhetoric to advance the cause of liberty.
Saturday’s lineup begins at 8 AM with breakfast speaker Larken Rose, a self-described tax heretic, social commentator and author. Larken challenges conventional thinking about our relationship with the government, inspiring and entertaining even the most principled libertarians and devout statists.
The noontime lunch speaker is Ben Stone, host of the incredible “Bad Quaker” podcast. Ben is known for his homespun logic and down-to-earth explanations of economics and history, and will be speaking on “Central Planning and Spontaneous Order,” his vision of the role of the State that is distinct from traditional views of government.
The keynote dinner speaker will be the nationally-acclaimed author Jim Bovard. The Wall Street Journal called Bovard “the roving inspector general of the modern state,” The New York Times tagged him “an anti-czar Czar,” and Washington Post columnist George Will called him a “one-man truth squad.” The provocative subject of his speech is “Libertarian Hooliganism: Having Fun Raising Hell for Freedom”.
Party business is also on the agenda, running from 9 AM to 5 PM Saturday, including election of party officers, candidate nominations, platform and bylaws changes, and management of other party affairs.
After hours on both nights, the Montgomery County Libertarians will once again host their legendary Hospitality Suite for the 18th consecutive year. The conversation and camaraderie typically last well into the wee hours.
