Minor Party Candidates to Participate In NYC Mayoral Debate June 2nd

The following is a May 30th email sent out by Carl Person, the Reform Party’s candidate for mayor of New York City in the  November 2013 elections. Person was previously involved with the Libertarian Party, running as its candidate for Attorney General of New York in 2010, earning 36,488 votes, 0r 0.48%. He ran for the LP’s presidential nomination in 2012 and received 3 votes, or .5%, at the national convention in Las Vegas.

Here is something of interest to candidates from every party – my excluded-candidates group consists of 3 democrats, 1 green party, 1 reform party (me) and 1 rent too damn high party (Jimmy McMillan) –  I got all of them into the debate to be held this Sunday, and we’re going to have another debate on 6/26 in another Bronx high school. I didn’t have to threaten anyone (although I was prepared to). The school and sponsor, upon learning that NYC’s position is that if you use the public high schools for a debate, you have to invite all candidates to participate — almost immediately agreed to include us in the debate.  I’m attaching a copy of the invitation I and all other mayoral candidates received on the same day. [Please note that the  form invitation is still dated May 22nd (when sent to the main mayoral candidates), but was sent to my excluded-candidates group (and others) one week later, on May 29th.

Dear Candidate Person You are cordially invited to participate in our inaugural Mayoral Candidates Forum, scheduled for June 2nd, 2013. It will be a great opportunity to introduce yourself and present your issues and vision for our great city.

There will be a panel of three journalist/questioners and the program will be moderated by popular
BronxTalk TV show host, Gary Axelbank. The journalists are from the Riverdale Press, the Norwood
News, and City Limits (Bronx Bureau).

Each candidate will have up to twenty minutes individually on the podium. They can offer an opening
statement of no more than three minutes. Then each journalist will ask questions. The candidate will have up
to three minutes to respond to any one question.

Depending on time, the moderator will select questions from those submitted by audience members.

We expect the program to run a little over two hours. Please contact us via email at ( or on my cell phone (917) 731-6850 to confirm participation and to schedule your stage time. We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes before you are scheduled to speak.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

I thank you again for your consideration and I look forward to your participation in what should be a well attended and productive program.
