The Constitution Party of New Jersey is running one candidate in the November 5, 2013 elections. Anthony Di Iorio is running for Hudson County sheriff. Hudson County, located in the northeastern corner of the state bordering the Atlantic Ocean, is the smallest county in the state, the home of Jersey City, and also one of the most densely populated counties in the entire nation. Roughly 13,495 people live per square mile according to the 2010 Census. The county is very Democratic, evidenced by Barack Obama’s crushing 77.5% win over Mitt Romney in 2012.
Di Iorio, 43, is the vice-president of the Jersey City Tea Party Alliance, and is involved in the art field in various capacities. He runs on a relatively short platform, which he promotes on his website:
As a Constitutionalist, I am pro 2nd Amendment and I support the right for every american to protect themselves, their family, and their property. That also includes the right to carry for every responsible, law-abiding, AMERICAN citizen. I also believe that the 2nd Amendment exists to protect ALL of your constitutional rights, and I will do everything in my power to protect all of them from any level of government that imposes laws that violate your constitutional rights.
I also understand the danger kids face just going to school in many of the school districts throughout Hudson County. They are often faced with harassment or assault from gangs. I will seek to deputize faculty members and other citizens from these school districts to empower them to protect these kids.
I will seek to establish workshop programs throughout Hudson County to educate the public on their rights as citizens so that they can be empowered to protect their rights.
I support LEGAL immigration. People should come here legally as my parents and so many of our ancestors did. As sheriff, I will enforce our immigration laws. That might not be so popular, especially in Hudson County, but as a philosopher once said, the right thing is not always popular and the popular thing is not always right.
On April 14h, he gave a brief speech to a Tea Party event in light of the nationwide Tax Day events:
