Steve Kubby’s Speech at Bitcoin Conference 2013

Steve Kubby was asked to speak at the Bitcoin Conference 2013. It was held in San Jose, California, May 17 to 19.

Mr. Kubby is a long-time Libertarian activist. He is best known for his efforts to legalize marijuana for medical purposes.

I’m glad to see that somebody was there to “wave the flag” (so to speak) for libertarianism.

I was the one who made the suggestion (on this very website) that the Libertarian National Committee ought to accept donations in Bitcoins, and surprisingly, this suggestion was actually implemented.

I also suggested that the Libertarian National Committee promote the fact that they are now accepting Bitcoins by doing a press release about it (it was only mentioned as one of about 5 items in a press release, when it should have received its own press release), as well as releasing a video about it. I also suggested that the LNC do a “We Accept Bitcoins” moneybomb, as a part of a major promotional effort to entice Bitcoin users who are not already Libertarian Party members to join the Libertarian Party, and I suggested having the Bitcoin Moneybomb over the same weekend as the Bitcoin Conference in San Jose, and for further promotion, I suggested that the Libertarian Party rent a table at the Bitcoin Conference in San Jose.

Unfortunately, none of my suggestions to PROMOTE that the LP is accepting Bitcoins and to use that as a recruiting tool were implemented, but at least the party is accepting them for donations, so I suppose that it is better than nothing.

This is yet another example of the Libertarian Party having a great product but crappy marketing.
