IPR’s Starchild Will Speak at Libertopia 2013

Independent Political Report’s writer Starchild will speak at Libertopia 2013, which is scheduled in San Diego, CA, for August 31 to Sept. 2 (Labor Day weekend). The festival is an event to bring together those in the voluntaryist, libertarian, and even anarchist communities to “spread the principles of free-market economics and voluntarism”, as it’s explained on their website. This year, the format will be more like a workshop than a lecture, and the leaders will be called “facilitators”. Starchild’s session is scheduled for Monday morning, and is called “How Do We Handle Power? Radical Libertarian Organizing in an Authoritarian World.” Starchild currently serves as an At-Large Representative for the Libertarian National Committee. Another Libertarian activist, writer Lawrence Samuels, is scheduled for Saturday morning. His topic will be “Why Chaology is Important to Libertarians”.

The four-day event features Jeffrey Tucker as the Master of Ceremonies. Other people who might be known to IPR readers would be Angela Keaton of Antiwar.com, Gary Chartier, author of “Conscience of an Anarchist”, David Friedman, Butler Shaffer, John Bush, Stefan Molyneux, and J. Neil Schulman. In fact, Mr. Schulman’s new movie, Alongside Night, will be screened Saturday evening. A short biography of each facilitator is listed on the Libertopia website.

This writer is lucky enough to be attending this year’s event. I’ll check into IPR from time to time to let you all know how things are going.

Looking forward to it. Or maybe someone who was there will stumble on this.

Unfortuinately, it was early on the last morning. We had planned to make it–but didn’t. Hopefully, there will be a video soon.

I read a bit about that in subsequent stories here. I was asking about Starchild’s presentation.

Truly excellent as an event, Paulie, except that we missed Starchild’s. I got caught up in a drama with J Neil Schulman, Angela Keaton, Schulman’s sister, and Chelsea Mannin, though. See my FB page.

    How did it go?

How about a contortionist? That would be great for libertarians as well! 😉

There will also be a hypnotist, offering help for improving several areas for an individual. I’m highly curious about this.

Jill @1 – There was a minimal Wikipedia page about me up at one point, but evidently someone somewhere along the line deleted it.

Anyway, thanks for posting this article. I’m looking forward to Libertopia — lots of terrific presenters and interesting-sounding topics, should be a blast! Hope to see some of you there.

In addition to the folks you mentioned, Ernie Hancock and Clyde Cleveland are two other Libertarian Party figures in the Libertopia speaker lineup. Ernie is a radio host, former candidate for LP national chair and super-activist perhaps best known for the “Ron Paul r3VOLution” meme.

Clyde is an author who ran for Iowa governor on the LP ticket in 2002. (He may not currently be a Libertarian — according to this blurb, he was subsequently elected as a Republican state platform committee rep. in 2008. It’s possible that many of the other speakers are or have been Libertarians too, but I’m not sure which off hand.

Along with my presentation/workshop scheduled for 9am Monday morning (Sept. 2), I’ve also been invited to be part of a panel discussion on polyamory. I don’t see that listed on the schedule, but I’m told it’s happening Friday (Aug. 30) at 5pm.

The official schedule can be viewed here.

Warren @3 – There’s no shame in your surprise, as I haven’t been very active as an IPR contributor. I think I’ve posted perhaps three or four pieces, to the best of my recollection. It’s one of several places I keep meaning to do more formal writing!

I learned, while writing this article, that Starchild doesn’t have a Wikipedia page. How can that be???
