Amanda Van Benschoten, The Enquirer at Cincinnati.com:
FLORENCE, KY – Boone County elections are typically pretty boring once you get past the May primaries: the Democratic Party doesn’t field many candidates, so the winners of the Republican primaries usually have a smooth ride into office.
This year could be different, though.
The Libertarian Party intends to run five candidates for countywide office, including for judge-executive. And they’ve come ready to run, judging by a political debate on Tuesday.
His Republican opponent in the May primary didn’t attend, so Boone Judge-executive Gary Moore squared off against Libertarian J. Kyle Sweeney at an event sponsored by the Northern Kentucky Business PAC.
While Sweeney has until August to officially become a candidate, he looked and sounded like one against Moore, ably fielding questions on business taxes, economic development, regionalism, the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and the Brent Spence Bridge.
