True, but rarely in as much detail 🙂

Non-paulie-attended conventions have also been covered (such as New York) in separate IPR articles.

I’ve been posting updates about every state I have been made aware of having conventions as they happen and reported myself from five of them (Virginia, Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama) while facilitating others in reporting from the rest with varying degrees of success.

Darryl Perry is a declared candidate for the 2016 LP presidential nomination.

  4. Steven Wilson May 18, 2014

Thanks for the reporting. I like to hear about other states and the conventions.

BTW, is Darryl Perry running for President? Is he running for the LP ticket?

    Thanks for the updates.

not sure if IPR wanted this info…but I i figured I’d send it to you and if so you can put it up where it needs to be!

The following account of the Libertarian Party of Florida, convention and leadership changes, is coming from the notes that I, the LPF Chair, scribbled down in my agenda. The unofficial minutes have not yet been produced, and the official minutes will not be available until approved by the EC. The next meeting of our EC will be Sunday, June 1st at 8pm.

The Libertarian Party of Florida had a great convention hosted by the Libertarian Party of Hillsborough County.

It was an election year for the LPF director positions of; Secretary, Treasurer, and At-Large 2.

Out-going Secretary, Lynn House had expressed she would not be seeking re-electon citing a desire to take a break and focus on her health. When nominations were called from the floor, Dale Doelling, nominated Mrs. House and she did not accept the nomination.
Char-lez Braden was the sole nominee for secretary and was elected. There were 2 NOTA votes.

Out-going Treasurer, Danielle Alexandre, was appointed to the position a year ago despite her pleas for someone else qualified to step up for the position, as she was already heavily involved in many other LPF leadership positions, campaigns, and legislative projects. She expressed from the beginning of her term, that she would not entertain any nominations from the floor for the position. James Morris, was the sole nominee from the floor and was elected. There were 3 NOTA votes.

Donald Sheldon expressed his desire to retain his position as At-Large 2 Representative. Matt Worley, was also nominated from the floor and accepted. The results I have recorded are; Donald Sheldon – 15, Matt Worley – 36, NOTA – 1

Region Representatives are elected via caucus and our Region Representatives are as follows:
    1 – Richard Creamer (retained)
    2 – VACANT
    3 – Bill Wohlsifer (retained)
    4 – VACANT
    5 – Ken Willey
6 – Vicki Kirkland (formerly Representing Region 9)
    7 – David Leavitt (retained)
    8 – Charles McBrearty
    9 – Lynn House
    10 – VACANT
    11 – Philippe Cadorette (retained)
    12 – Elsa Martinez (retained)
    13 – Karl Dickey
    14 – Suzanne Gilmore

A new Ad Hoc Committee was created. The Grand Jury Committee.

All of our Standing Committees and Ad Hoc Committees have active chairs.
The Committee Chairs are as follows:
    Candidate Committee – Lucas Overby
    Communications Committee – Richie Fimbel
    Membership Committee – Michael Higgs
    Platform Committee – Tom Rhodes
    Rules Committee – Ryan Bell
    Selection Committee – Lucas Overby
Big Switch Committee – Jared Grifoni
State Fair Committee – Zachary Silva
Finance & Marketing Committee – Michael Higgs
Legislative Review Committee – Suzanne Gilmore
Grand Jury Committee – Donald Sheldon

We had an impressive interest in our convention from the media. I have not yet had a chance to read/watch/listen to everything but here is an article that was just sent to me as I was writing this.

The energy and excitement felt at the convention was contagious and encouraging! Let’s keep up that momentum as we continue to march our way to November in this gubernatorial election year! We have some great ideas to continue the remarkable, continuing increase in our membership, registration, and fundraising! In order to “push go” on many of these projects we only need 1 thing…YOU to donate whatever you can to the LPF TODAY! Please visit this link and contribute to your favorite LPF projects, then please pass the message to do the same!

We elected a new Secretary (Char-lez Braden), Treasurer (James Morris), and At-Large 2 (Matt Worley). Not sure who was elected Region Rep, it was very busy for me and the Hillsborough County affiliate (we were short staffed). Wes Benedict did an amazing fundraiser at the Banquet which raised a good amount of money. Our speakers (Darryl Perry, Don Bellante, Jim Gray, and George Phillies) were well received. It went well.

  7. Bill Hall May 18, 2014

At its convention yesterday, the LP of Michigan nominated a full partisan statewide slate of candidates: Mary Buzuma/Scotty Boman for Gov./Lt. Gov; Jim Fulner for US Senate; Jamie Lewis for Secy of State; Justin Altman for AG; and the 8 educational board candidates. It only nominated one candidate for the three nonpartisan Supreme Court positions: Kerry Morgan for the partial term. Candidates were nominated for 11 of the 14 Congressional districts. LPM officers were all re-elected (Mary Buzuma, Chair; Scotty Boma, Vice Chair; Jim Fulner, Secretary; Kim Moore, Treasurer). Four of five at-large directors are new.

I’ve received surprisingly little news from Florida. This is all I have seen so far:

I’m not exactly sure how I came to be Region 9 Rep. It wasn’t my intention..The EC and the convention had honored me for my past service to the LPF in the warmest way possible. I had said my farewells. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to let go, but was sure I could find something else to do – something less demanding. Region 9 had a perfectly good candidate. Then… my husband nominated me for Regional Rep. He may be an enabler.

On the other hand, he knows that I’m not happy unless I’m engrossed in something. I suspect he realized that, with nothing to do, I’d be taking a hyper-critical look at our house and his chore list would be growing rapidly. It was in his own best interest that Chuck redirect my attention back to the LPF. I’m glad he did. Thank you Region 9 for electing me. I’ll do my best

Russ Wood Lynn, Just before the caucus, Chuck was lobbying the Polk County delegation hard, of course it didn’t take much persuading, we all knew you would be perfect for the job.

Victory in Michigan. Of the nine member executive committee all are at least radical friendly and more than half are self proclaimed radicals.

I’m putting these threads up specifically for LP conventions but if any other IPR authors would like to put some up for other parties please do so.
