About Rufus H. Craig, Jr.
I am a lifelong Louisiana resident and am passionate about this state and the welfare of its citizens. I have been a practicing attorney in Baton Rouge since graduating from the Southern University Law Center in 1984, having previously graduated from LSU in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree. I have been a self-employed attorney since graduation. My practice focuses on issues encountered by ordinary people in everyday life.
The primary issues facing this country now are the deficit and debt. For decades both major political parties have paid lip service to resolving the on-going deficit spending. The only point in modern history that Congress actually was on a path to resolving this problem was the end of Bill Clinton’s second term. Beginning with the first term of George W. Bush, with the aide and complicity of the Republican controlled Congress, the nation departed on a course of fiscal policy which has been amplified and exasperated by the current Democratic administration.
A brief review of the history of legislation which has led to the current deficit crisis begins with the repeal of “pay-go”. This was a budget tool which required any spending or taxing legislation to be revenue neutral. It required any tax cut must be matched by a spending cut, and any new spending proposal must be matched by an increase in taxes or a cut to another program. This was repealed so that Congress could pass the now famous Bush tax cuts. As a result of this repeal, the muzzle was removed from Congress and they were able to spend without concern for the deficits created by the cuts and new programs. The tax cuts were followed in rapid succession by the invasion of Afghanistan, the invasion of Iraq, Medicare Part IV (drug benefit) and the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). These tax cuts, wars and social benefits are the major cause for our current predicament.
In order to resolve these issues it will require Congress to return to the “pay-go” system and to seriously examine and reform the tax code with a reduction to the size of all government programs, including Medicare and the Department of Defense. It won’t be easy as the various industries and entities affected by changes to the tax code and spending policies will push back mightily with their lobbies–the largest in Washington today.
The solution to our problem requires a paradigm shift in the way business is conducted in Washington, D.C. I believe that the Libertarian Party offers the best chance of changing course and putting us on the right course.

Good job Henry Herford. Herford is responsible for a lot of the growth of LP in Louisiana with the example he set as to what the scumbags controlling the la GOP are up to.

With the gear up to the midterm elections I hope everyone has had the same level of increased success this cycle that we have had here in Louisiana. We set a record for the state by getting 6 Federal and 13 local candidates on the ballot for the November 4th election here in Louisiana for a grand total of 19 candidates. Considering that the LPL had 7..thats right..SEVEN people at the 2012 state convention, in 2 short years having that many people running for office shows how far we have come. Our efforts at organizing local affiliates has started to bear fruit. This increased organization and level of success can be largely attributed to contracting Wendy Adams as Louisiana State Executive Director. Ms. Adams tireless efforts have helped to lead Louisiana to unprecedented growth via recruitment and formation of Parish Executive Committees. It hasn’t been easy maintaining a full time staffer with our current size, but its been more than worth it having a professional to get out and “herd the cats”. In those states that don’t have to contend with the constant ballot access fight, start setting aside some funds. An ED more than pays for itself if its the right person.
Let’s all focus on those things that we agree on and the success we are having across the country and keep the unproductive interpersonal drama out of this Email chain. Congratulations to Illinois! Congrats to New York! Let’s keep em coming!

McMorris can come across as kind of weirdo-stupid some times. The only blatant bone-headed mistake in this statement, however, is the one instance random Capitalization. So he’s showing improvement.
LP is running an out-of-district candidate for District 1. Greens are doing the same (again) for District 5. It’s legal, but super-lame.
No LP candidate yet for District 3.
They are doing an amazing job there!
