The Libertarian Party of California (LPC) Executive Committee is joining the Libertarian Party of Nevada (LPNevada) Executive Committee in a joint session with the intent to strengthen their relationship and work together on issues both states are faced with.

IIRC Flavio Fiumerodo is the mastermind of the current LPCA website.
The responsibility for the LPCA website hasn’t been Beau Cain’s. Besides, before the December 2014 MEETING, Beau had no official ties the the LPCA since fall of 2013.

Without proper notification of mtgs and without informative agendas, mintes, bylaws & current event updates, it had for members to stay active and in the loop.
Honestly, I’m not sure… I think this has been a tough year for him. There has been a lot of chaos on the board. Not easy to play facilitator under those conditions. Hopefully, if he doesn’t, he’ll continue to participate because I think there are a lot of ways he can help the LP even after the last couple years.
Janine, do you know if Kevin plans to run for Chair again?
Thank you Janine. I hope you get nominated. As I understand it, last time you only did not win because you were brand you, but you no longer are.
I haven’t seen the invitation as of yet, but I plan to be there. If nominated, I don’t see a reason to decline. Truly, I’m hoping we can find some awesome, neutral people to fill the spots. Controversy in a party this small is unbecoming and we need a functioning party to support candidates and build name recognition in California.
Thank you. I meant more along the lines of whether you’ll go to this convention, in Vegas, and run for chair or state exec comm, though.
I can’t give up on the LP. It’s quite literally my job. We have rolled out a general committee to support LP candidates for elected office (Vote LP Today) and we’re building a slate of candidates for 2016 right now (myself included). To attract and retain candidates, we need a solid party structure or at least one that isn’t embarrassing. I’ll do whatever I can to help.
So will you go there and run against them or just abandon them to their fate?
The convention was moved away from Sacramento because we could have easily doubled the number of participants. We’ve been running med size events here for a couple years now and have a pretty good sized group. We offered to host, but never received an answer back from the chairman. The truth is, there are quite a few problems that need to be solved before the party can gain stream and credibility. My career has been dedicated to figuring out those problems and finding ways to solve them for almost two years now. Supporting Nevada is a fantastic idea, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have our convention there. It was the No. CA year, but the guys in the south jumped on board to hijack it not realizing that the real plan was to watch them fail at it and then move it to Nevada. This plan was shared with me some time ago (around October 2014). It turns my stomach the shenanigans that are being pulled in CA. I’ve worked very hard to sell the LP as a viable alternative and gain credibility for the program we were building. This is just a level of stupidity I’m not sure we can justify. It’s akin to the previous Nevada chair outright canceling their convention, imho. I am learning and meeting people and doing my best with what I’ve got to work with. I don’t know what the membership will want this next election, but does an election held in Nevada really represent the California membership anyway? Well, since the resigned seats were appointed rather than elected, I guess it doesn’t matter much. That’s how they were able to move the convention, btw.
I guess my question still remains then as to whether she will run for the state committee this year. I know she is active locally.

Paulie, I just saw your question about Janine. Her term would have run out next year, so she’s out for the year, but I can’t speak beyond that. I know she stays busy in Sacramento County, and I believe they have a successfual and active region up there.

I’ll certainly see you at the conference on the 31, Mark, and,I plan to have an article to post here within the next few days about the event. I was pleased to learn today that Nicholas Sarwark will be speaking, plus one of my favorite Libertarians, Norma Jean Almodovar. The conference is always a well-spent day.

I would like to see new leadership at the top and will support a slate if Jill or someone who has the common sense to have the convention in cali wants to represent me. Beau Cain and the rest of these guys, brian darby, brian theimer, kevin takanaka, and kevin duewel . should and will be held accountable for this moving of meetings to other states (The oldest and dirtiest political stunt). Facebook had 100 comments in my mail over this issue today. People obviously care about the issue and the majority clearly want it in Cali. Northern and Southern Cali regions should pick their convention sites, not incompetent power grabbers. I am so glad people see through these losers. I’ve been working on a website for lplac but I think it’s time to start working on a CALP bylaw amendment instead. Can’t wait to have a cold beer in Vegas and meet these clowns. Hope to see you all at the Southern Cali conference Jan 31st where we can discuss a possible slate. Perhaps we could call it the cali4cali slate. My check book is waiting!

Smart move. I suspect that this is why they don’t want to hold the convention in Sac or even in CA at all. So besides recruiting people, making sure they actually go to the convention, wherever it may be, needs to be high on the agenda.
Has Janine given up on running, just resigned for the remainder of this term, or both?
I do particularly like that Washington is doing the one thing in the face of top two that you need to in order to stay relevant: KEEP RUNNING CANDIDATES AND AS MANY AS YOU CAN!

Well, CA could learn from their experience now that they have, I would think? Of course the two states are different, but some of the general ideas about how WA has been able to find some success should be applicable to CA.
It is indeed unfortunate that Janine has resigned, but I hope she goes to the convention anyway, even if it is in Nevada, and that a lot of people from CA go. Janine came close to being elected CA chair last time and only wasn’t because she was too new to LPCA. This time I hope she runs again and I believe she can win. If she won’t then hopefully someone else good will.
Wes, Aaron Starr hasn’t been involved with state leadership for quite some time. The current state of the CA LP really doesn’t have anything to do with him.
I think most activists who’ve been around a while find a niche where they feel they are effective, and put their time and efforts in that area. Speaking from personal experience, I was not effective at all on the CA Ex Com, so I’ve taken my time and efforts elsewhere. However, as a regional chair in LA County, I don’t think I need to shut up about the state leadership. From Janine’s explanation of her reason for resigning, it sounds like she definitely thought her decision through, and thinks her time will be spent better somewhere else.
And with all due respect to Washington LP’s recent successes, Top-Two has been in force for then years or so in that state. It took quite some time to figure out how to work around it.
I’m not a member and thus not bound to any of the complaints listed. So, one could infer that what I say is irrelevant, and that’s fine. But it doesn’t change the facts of bylaws nor the fact that it’s always easier to complain & blame others, rather than taking action.

There’s nothing in the bylaws that requires the Chair to have a discussion with anyone prior to calling a meeting. Get over it. As members of this party, you agreed to abide by them. Don’t like it? Get on the Bylaws Committee, get to convention and change it.
Before some people arrived on the scene, two conventions were previously held out of state, one of which was in northern Nevada.
And lastly, assuming that someone else is doing work is EXACTLY what’s wrong with this country. Everyone assumes that others are working for them, with the result being complacency and laziness, but plenty of hot air to go around.
Freedom isn’t free. It takes work by everyone. Want to see or have something different? Take some initiative. Lead by example. Everyone can complain. But not everyone has the fortitude to put their monies where their mouths are.
Too bad Janine is bailing out. Regardless of the reason this shows once again the lack of thinking things through.

Top two sucks, but Washington State has managed pretty well in many ways despite it, so it’s not the whole explanation.
Top two has made things worse for the LP of CA, but the decline of the LP of CA began long before Top Two, which was passed in 2010.
Top Two probably hasn’t helped, either.
The LP of California has been held back by dysfunction for a long time now. The LP of CA is a shell of what it was in the late ’90’s and early 2000’s.
I didn’t even know the convention committee had come up with any plans from Los Angeles. I offered to help scout the Pasadena area, and just assumed someone else was doing it when no one took me up on it.
Dysfunction at its worst.

“We offered to host in Sacramento (as odd years were typically held in Sac. This year, it was suddenly moved to LA without a vote of the excom.) and to cover the cost of the event up front and cover any losses out of our LPSAC budget. As far as I know, that offer was never presented to the board. I privately offered to the chairman and received no answer back, only questions as to exactly how much money I could access. We typically get almost as many members attending our local events as the recent conventions and could have drawn in a big group that’s been cultivated here over the last two years. Talk about attracting members to participate. Then, plans started surfacing for Nevada. I’m not sure what to say guys. I’ve gotten no support or even attention as to what we’ve built here and that’s a huge slap in the face. Sac County has grown approx 27% in LP voter registrations over the last two years- fastest growing county statewide if I recall correctly- and we’re shunned as a convention location while the convention committee fights nonstop about LA plans and the chairman and vice chairman circumvent CA all together in favor of Nevada?? What’s the point anymore?”
I was told months ago that an attempt was going to be made for hosting in Nevada by the VC after the convention committee, presumably, failed to adequately plan in LA. This is just that plan being played out. If we don’t even feel our convention should be held here, why participate in the CA state excom? Open up those spots for people who live and work here who want to help CA improve. Twice now, LPC activities have been planned for days that I’ve had long-standing publicly posted events on. It’s no secret that, they’re trying to oust me, but after almost two years of me busting my butt on behalf of the LP, why continue to exclude me? I’ve proven myself time and again and now I’m done dealing with it. If the membership wants to see LPC dragged up out of obscurity, you’ll need to start supporting the people who are working tirelessly on behalf of the LP, not those who are doing everything they can to drive it into the ground.
And then there’s this, from the secretary of the LP CA:
“I’ve finally had a minute to update my work history on LinkedIn and Facebook! Because it updates on my timeline, I figured I’d better post before the concerned comments start coming through One major change is that I resigned from the LPCalifornia ExCom board today. The next business meeting is being held in Nevada on the day of my daughter’s birthday party. I haven’t figured out how to be in two places at once yet and, as this is the second meeting I will miss (out of very few held this year), I won’t be able to continue in this role. Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to participate as much as I had originally hoped and I feel that my time will be better utilized elsewhere for now. Also, I included our new organization, Vote LP Today in my profile. Make sure to check out this page… share it, like it, post to it… whatever you can do to help get the word out is much appreciated! Yes, I’m still serving the Libertarian Party of Sacramento County in a voluntary role as Executive Director and I still work at The Morning Star Company No big changes really, just updating to current mostly!”
This joint meeting has only been planned recently, and is apparently for the purpose of exploring the possibility of a joint convention. For those of us who live in Southern California, this is a bit disappointing, since we were expecting to have it here. (California typically alternates northern and southern California, so that no one willl have a huge distance to travel every year). After the last convention, there was talk of having it in the Pasadena/Glendale/ Burbank area, which is where the region I’m chairman of is. Our group was looking forward to helping to host the 2015 convention.
FWIW, at the LPLAC (Libertarian Party of Los Angeles) meeting last week, we took a straw poll of everyone who thought having the convention in Las Vegas was a good idea. Twelve out of twelve of the people there voted “No”.
