The San Bernardino County Libertarian Party and the Libertarian Party of Los Angeles County are proud to invite one and all to the 6th Annual Southern California Libertarian Regional Conference. Please join us at 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM on January 31, 2015 at Geezer’s 12120 Telegraph Rd., Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670.

Our Conference will include a line-up of knowledgeable activists, prominent Libertarians and lunch buffet. Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to talk with the speakers, meet and mingle with other Libertarians and liberty-minded friends. There are games planned and, as always, a chance to leave with great new friends, prizes and a call to action for the promotion of liberty in our state.

This year’s speakers include 2012 Vice Presidential candidate Judge Jim Gray, author/activist Norma Jean Almodovar, Craig Beresh of the California Cannabis Coalition, author/activist/LPC Executive Committee member Leon Weinstein, Women’s Rights activist Alexandra Goldburt and current sitting Libertarian National Committee Chairman Nicholas Sarwark.

Tickets for the entire day’s events are $35 per person and can be purchased in advance, or at the door. For advance tickets and to reserve your spot NOW, go to Eventbee .

Don’t miss out on the very first big Libertarian event of 2015!

I’m pleased to announce that Adam Kokesh will be there, talking about his new book “Freedom” and his upcoming tour.

Also, I have changed the hours because the official notice has changed the hours.

I attended this event today. It was a very enjoyable day! Norma Jean Almadovar is still great! If you haven’t heard her speak, you’re missing out on hearing a very special lady and the work she does re: the lies about sex trafficing and the mistreatment of sex workers by the police force. Nicholas Sarwark gave a good speech, asking us, among other things to “be nice”.
We all laughed, but, darn it, he’s right. I pledge to do my best to be nicer to other Libertarians.

Judge Gray spoke, and my observation is that he’s vastly improved his public speaking skills. I think he was a good speaker before as far as what he said, but he didn’t have a whole lot of charisma. I would say that wasn’t the case today.

He said that he hopes that Gary Johnson will be our candidate in 2016, and that, if he is, that he’d be happy to run again as the vice-presidential candidate.

I asked a question: Judge Gray. last year you wrote an article that caused quite a bit of conversation called the “Police Are Noble Servants”. How do you reconcile that with the tremendous breech of civil rights exhited by many policemen in the police state that we’re in?

He said that he hasn’t changed his opinion at all, that most policemen are good and are trying to do the right thing. My friend next to me asked about how policemen feel about arresting people for unjust laws, and Judge Gray said that they’ve taken an oath to uphold the law.

I was disappointed that he didn’t use this opportunity today for some more dialog on the topic.

I don’t believe there was any video taken. I’ll ask around for someone to write something up for us.

Adam Kokesh came late in the day. The plan had been to hand out some of his free books, called “Freedom” but he has run out of them! I met Adam last week at a Jordan Page concert. I like him very much. He’s actually kind of an “aw shucks” kind of guy, which was charming. At least, that was my opinion of him.

He has a lovely lady friend, also.

I hope that Jim Gray is not on the 2016 Libertarian Party Presidential ticket based on the above comment about the police (and this is just one of the reasons).

    That would be good.

Was there much of an uproar about the CA convention being planned in NV or any plans made?

  8. Andy

The police take an oath to uphold the Constitution, and I’d bet that almost all of the – or maybe even all of them – violate this oath on a routine basis.

If Jim Gray does not understand this, the should not be a candidate for the Libertarian Party.

Paulie asked: Was there much of an uproar about the CA convention being planned in NV or any plans made?

Several leaders of the San Bernardino County are not speaking to other members of the SBCLP because of their votes to send the convention to Nevada. I was quite concerned that the announcement being made only yesterday of the CA convention would make for problems today. Fortunately, we had such a good line-up of speakers that everything went well.

The San Bernardino County group has always been the fun, partying group. This is highly distressing.

I’ll do everything I can to push the convention, just to get people there to vote out the Ex Com members. I almost think we’ll replace everyone. There isn’t a floor fee for the one-day convention, I see, but the one day pass to join festivites for Saturday is $220!

    WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT!

(I know I just said I was going to be nice to other Libertarians, but this is outrageous!!! They clearly are trying to get only a few, “higher quality” delegates there!)

I’m hoping we can arrange some things for the Povertarians to do on Saturday so that we can enjoy Vegas as a group, since we have to go there. I don’t believe I’ll pay $220 for one day, or $299 for the three days before.

I’ll just wait and see what happens, I guess. I expect much fury over the $220 single day fee.

As much as I like Jim Gray otherwise, I agree with Andy here. The problem of police abuse is just too important to me.

I’ve heard of several people considering running, 2 names for chair. There haven’t been any announcement, though, that I know of. Someone told me last week that Kevin Takenaga might run again. That really surprised me. I can’t imagine that he hasn’t figured out how unhappy people in his state are.

  13. Jill Pyeatt Post author

One of the things I find distressing is that all of our business is planned to be done in one day. This is unprecedented in our state, at least in my memory. Since I know we will be having bylaw discussions on Sunday, I fear that will leave little time for speeches from the candidates. For this reason, I hope to help plan a dinner or lunch on Saturday where the candidates can introduce themselves. We could even meet on a park somewhere.

  14. Andy

Here’s a poll: Do you want to see Jim Gray on the Libertarian Party’s Presidential ticket again?

Put me down as a no.

I’ve heard of several people considering running, 2 names for chair.

Considering that Janine almost won last time and the only reason she didn’t was because she was so new that would seem like a good possibility if she is willing.

  16. Andy

You know, I am actually in southern California right now. I was going to go to this event but did not make it.

If I had been there, my response to Jim Gray saying that the police are trying to do the right thing would have been, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions,” and even with this, I think that a lot of cops are not trying to do the right thing, as a lot of them intentionally do bad things.

Thanks for the correction. Nicholas. He was behing me and off to the side, so I guess I totally missed it.

If he sends you video of your speech, please let me know so I can post it here.

And I’m, still trying to be nice, despite my discovery last night that the cost to spend Saturday at the LP Expo in NV will be $220–

  18. Andy

I have not seen anyone answer my poll question above about whether or not fellow Libertarians want to see Jim Gray on the Libertarian Party Presidential ticket again?

So far I’ve got Jill and I voting no. I am curious to see more responses.

  19. Martin Passoli

Has Dave Hollist said anything about whether, when or where he will post the videos?

  20. Mark Axinn

    Jill–

New York LP Convention will be around $65-75 for the day, including Continental breakfast and luncheon.

Feel free to join us if CA/NV is too expensive for you.
