    “libertarian-ish” =/= libertarian.

    Ergo, original title was correct.

Rand said he was “libertarian-ish” when he jumped in to correct Colbert for calling him a libertarian. Which is par for the course– he never lets anybody apply the label to him without quibbling over how it’s not correct.

It didn’t misquote anything. He did not say he is a libertarian.

Of course, that is not news. He has said for many years that he is not a libertarian and that it’s a label people have tried to hang around his neck like an albatross. Sometimes he claims to be “libertarian-ish” (which is a bunch of ish) or “libertarian conservative” or some other such contrived nonsense.

But the fact remains that he did not claim to be a libertarian, so the original title was accurate as well.

The original title misquoted what Rand said. Rand said that he is libertarian-ish. This is exactly what he said, so this is what the title should say.

I don’t think there was anything wrong with the original title.

    That was worth watching.

Okay, I changed the title. I’m mentioning it because the above comments won’t make sense to someone who joins this thread now or later on without knowing the title was different.

With a strong emphasis on the heavy dose of “ish”.

  9. Andy January 7, 2016

I agree that the headline is misleading. Rand said he is libertarian-ish.

…this is a really silly headline. He never claimed NOT to be a libertarian. He said he was “libertarian–ish” and did so in a joking manner.

He then defines a libertarian as a person advocating a certain set of values–and says he advocates for those values.

LP should be capitalized in my above post, no slight intended.

For those curious, here’s Paul recently speaking about Gary Johnson. He wishes him well but thinks libertarians are better served in the major parties.

“If you don’t get a libertarian nominee and you’re frustrated (the lp) may be an avenue.” Johnson or whomever should probably take that quote and run with it once Rand drops out.
