South Dakota State Senator Stan Adelstein endorses Gary Johnson

Stan Adelstein

Update: Earlier this article identified Stan Adelstein as a state representative; in fact, he’s a former state representative and current state senator. Stan Adelstein is an 84 year old Republican member of the South Dakota State Senate who represents the state’s 32nd district. On August 2nd, 2016, he wrote an article titled “Attacking a patriot mother’s tears” in which he lambasted Donald Trump over the Khizr Khan situation. At the end of his article, Adelstein declared his support for Gary Johnson’s presidential campaign:

In a presidential election year when both major party candidates are so unsuited for the position, many of us are wishing for another option. Fortunately there is one: Gary Johnson, former Republican Governor of New Mexico, and his running-mate William Weld, former Republican Governor of Massachusetts.

The Johnson-Weld ticket will appear on the ballot in all fifty states for the Libertarian Party. In Johnson we have opportunity to vote for a leader whose values are in-step with our own. With Johnson on our ballot we can enter the voting booth with excitement to cast our vote for a president with the experience, heart, and judgement that this country needs.

According to Wikipedia, there are currently ten state legislators who have endorsed Gary Johnson, four of whom are members of the Libertarian Party. Johnson has also been endorsed by one member of Congress, Scott Rigell.

I’ve spoken to Stan; great guy. He’s jumping on board as the SD state chair for the campaign.

He’s also a State Senator, not just a State Representative (he’s served in both chambers).

Thanks Andy, the post has been updated with the correct information.

Robert, I agree that the Politico story about the ad buy in Maine is IPR worthy. I was going to put it up yesterday, but if I don’t get to it today, I’m sure someone else will.

It’s a great story highlighting a great strategy. Maine’s electoral votes being split by CD, it makes a ripe state for consideration in such a strategy. Not to mention, small media markets make it very inexpensive. I’d love to see a strategy that attacks Maine, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Alaska, Montana, as a start before moving on to states like Nevada, New Hampshire, etc, which are more expensive.
