Donald Trump says losing to Evan McMullin in Utah would be ‘devastating,’ likely cost him election

Matt Canham in the Salt Lake Tribune (H/T Ballot Access News):

Independent candidate replies, “While you were harassing women at beauty pageants, I was fighting terrorists abroad.”

Donald Trump lashed out at independent Evan McMullin, calling him “a puppet” who could cost Republicans the election and give liberals the Supreme Court for the next 60 years if he wins in Utah.

[…]

McMullin has called Trump a “racist,” “misogynist” and an “authoritarian.” Trump is now firing back.

And from Lisa Mascaro at the LA Times:

“Nobody ever heard of him,” Pence said.

[…]

“Yes you’ve never heard of me because while you were harassing women at beauty pageants, I was fighting terrorists abroad,” McMullin, a former CIA operative who more recently worked on staff for House Republicans, tweeted late Saturday.

“You think you’re entitled to Utahns’ and other Americans’ votes. We’re earning them,” McMullin added.

McMullin also tweeted “.@realDonaldTrump, we will not sit by while two corrupt, self-serving, big government liberals like you and Clinton destroy our country.”

Agree with almost everything in the comments on this one so far. as far as identity politics, yes, that’s probably part of it, but Trump was already unpopular in Utah before McMullin came along and became more so after the “pussy grabbing” stuff came to light a little bit more (tip of the iceberg there). If not for McMullin it is plausible that Johnson could have been in a position to be competitive for electoral votes in Utah.

Putting Trump in charge of our nuclear arsenal is like giving a child a loaded gun to play with, it’s very dangerous.

Have to agree. McMuffin isn’t my choice, but I can’t lie that it would be epic if he stopped The Donald in his path to the white house by winning Utah and denying Trump an electoral majority.

Anything that makes Donald Trump feel “devastated” is a good thing. Go McMuffin!

Seriously, though, I am not a social conservative and would not vote for McMullen but I always support things that pull us away from the two party monopoly (even if I am a member of one of those parties).

An E.Mc win in UT has an identity politics feel.

Well if you lose the state of Utah, and potentially the presidency. To someone that no one’s ever heard of. Then you didn’t run a very good campaign did you Mr. Trump? Well shall see how Utah plays out. As for myself here in California #Stein/Baraka 2016
