Thread for livebloging this weekend’s LP state conventions

This thread is for liveblogging the LP state conventions for the weekend of March 29-31, 2019. Liveblog will be in the website comment section of this post. I will be reporting from Tennessee on Saturday, and welcome help from others in Tennessee and/or anyone in any of the other states that will have conventions this weekend who is willing to report on their states. After the fact reports are also welcome. Last weekend’s thread is here. LP.org lists Washington State and Iowa as also being this weekend, and Oklahoma is this weekend as well. There may be others of which I am not aware.

In case anyone does wish to help report from any of the states: IPR is currently experiencing a comment lag problem. You can eliminate this on your end by getting a login from myself ([email protected]) or Warren Redlich ([email protected]).

I liveblogged several past TN conventions here — will try to find and link those threads later. Already did that in the Alabama post.

Yes. I mentioned it in some of the comments above. There are links to pictures and video of it above as well 🙂

    It was a great presentation.

Big thanks for this one. Tennessee is my favorite state.

Did the TN electeds give a presentation?

from the new TN chair “Joshua Eakle for LPTN Chairman

Setup a $10/mo recurring donation at LPTN.org and I’ll ship you a free “Taxation is Theft” hat.”

Me to LPAlabama exec comm: I suggest we do something similar. Not sure if a motion is needed or whether one would be proper without first discussing the specific item(s). If I read the files Laura W sent me correctly we have almost no monthly members anymore. Speaking of which, I will become one if everyone else on the exec com does too 🙂

Richard Fast: I’ll match you for $10/mo.

5 people raised hands saying they will run for local office in TN. 22 raised hands that they will work on campaigns. Outgoing chair remarks, then incoming chair remarks and adjourn.

    7:00 pm – 9:30 pm

Gala will begin at 7pm with dinner included. It will be across the street from the Wilson County Expo Center. Official details to be given closer to time. Cocktail or Gala wear optional. All proceeds will go to the Libertarian Party of Tennessee 2020 convention funds.

Ken Moellman has been told will be speaking at the gala.

I can’t make myself pay much attention to bylaws. If anyone wants to blog this part your help would be appreciated. As it would on anything that I am blogging as well.

Convention is back after lunch and voting on bylaws amendment proposals.

    JBH running for national chair?

From his LNC at large page:

“Howdy from Issaquah, WA where I’m crashing this evening’s welcome reception at the LPWA 2019 Convention before boarding a red-eye flight to Tennessee tonight for their convention tomorrow.

LNC staff just released the 2018 annual report, which you can download in PDF form at

    https://www.lp.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/2018_libertarian_party_annual_report.pdf

While we didn’t have a breakthrough in 2018, we did have some successes: Jeff Hewitt was elected, ballot access is at a record high, our candidate team got valuable data on what works and what doesn’t, fundraising was up, and our voter registration doubled while the other parties shrank. We went in the red quite a bit in 2018 but course corrected at the end of the year and have already paid off the debt we carried over. The focus now is getting everything ready for 2020.”

    Also on his page…

“When I ran for LNC At-Large I promised to get out and attend as many state conventions as possible. I’m currently planning on attending these 2019 state conventions in the next 3 months:

    Kentucky
    Pennsylvania
    Indiana
    Washington (Mar 29 only)
    Tennessee
    California
    Utah
    Illinois (May 3 only)
    Nevada (May 4 only)
    North Carolina
    Arkansas

I may be able to add more as my schedule firms up.”

That’s….a lot more than at large LNC reps who are not running for president or national chair usually do 🙂

Acceptance speeches then lunch. Besides chair the other officers ran unopposed.

This is my unpaid commercial for https://www.facebook.com/ebelstavern/ Owned by outgoing LPTN chair but even if I had no idea who owned it it would still be the best restaurant I ate at in years, and I eat out and travel all the time. My compliments to the chef whoever he or she is…a true genius and artist.

  24. paulie March 30, 2019

Coe identifies with Radical Caucus. Eakle would be Pragmatist Caucus but is not affiliated per se and says it’s irrelevant to the position he is seeking as state chair.

  25. paulie March 30, 2019

District 4 Chair Michelle Randall is also here from KY

  26. paulie March 30, 2019

Joshua Reed Eakle shared a link to the group: The Libertarian Party of Tennessee.

Over the last several months, I’ve traveled the state speaking about my priorities if elected as Chairman of the LPTN. I’ve touched on the need for us to have a clear and concise plan for each year of operations as a party.

As promised, I’ve done the work to lay out a clear strategic plan on the action items that will be completed throughout the year of 2019. All the other unopposed members of the leadership, David Sexton (Vice Chair), Kenna Porter (Secretary), and Chelsea Moriarty (Treasurer) have reviewed this and signed off on the plan.

Give it a read. Feel free to shoot any questions to me directly.

  27. paulie March 30, 2019

It was mentioned there is a livestream. I have not seen the link yet.

  28. paulie March 30, 2019

David Sexton is the current Vice Chair and has previously been treasurer. A woman whose name I did not catch was running for secretary, I think, but it may have been treasurer. Sarah “Daggers” Stewart and Erin Pyle are here from the Ruff/Phillips campaign seeking the presidential nomination. Sarah, who lived in Louisiana for the 6 or 7 years I have known her, moved up here recently. I’m not sure if Erin lives here. Ken Moellman is about to moderate chair debate. Tom Arnold has a table for the radical caucus.

  29. paulie March 30, 2019

I have not caught all the names so apologies for any misspellings. Roddy Coe and Josh Eakle are running for chair. David Sexton is the only human for Vice Chair. Apparently NOTA either requires nomination here or people are doing it anyway.

  30. paulie March 30, 2019

Joe Bishop-Henchman is here. Elijah Boyd is here from Alabama, and Ken aforementioned from KY. So far since I have been here they were going over state budget and then regional caucuses, now going over state party officer nominations.

  31. paulie March 30, 2019

Thanks to Ken Moellman for the ride from Nashville (we are in Lebanon and stayed last night in Carthage, where outgoing TN chair Cole Ebel owns Ebel’s tavern, best restaurant I ate at in years and I eat out all the time all over the country. I say that not because of the owner, I would say it even if I had no idea who owned it.

  32. paulie March 30, 2019

I have arrived tardy for the TN convention

  33. paulie March 29, 2019

If anyone from one of the other states would like a separate thread let me know ahead of time, I will set you up. Will be in transit to Tennessee tomorrow.
