Kokesh E-mail: #DebateANazi

2020 Libertarian Party presidential candidate Adam Kokesh sent out the following e-mail to readers about his recent appearance on Chris Cantwell‘s “Radical Agenda”:

Adam Kokesh American Referendum Project

Last week I went on Christopher Cantwell’s show, ‘Radical Agenda’, to speak with the crying Nazi himself!

As soon as I announced my appearance on his show the peanut gallery was inflamed! “Adam, why would you associate with a Nazi?” “I didn’t know you were a Nazi!”… etc.

Ya’ know – the same old hyper critical heckling that’s become so popular in libertarian circles.

As much as I laugh at the idea of being a Jewish Nazi, it can be frustrating when I see fellow activists so unwilling to engage in discussion with people they disagree with.

As my guru Yoda said, “fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering.” The only way to break that cycle is with love!

Over the last few years, Cantwell has built up quite a following. Many of whom probably aren’t card carrying members of the SS.

Would you rather these people stew in an echo chamber of hate, or would it be better if liberty minded people were able to break through those cultural boundaries with a resounding message of love?

“The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Worst case scenario: A great many people’s minds were stretched by the ideas of liberty and the love found at the core of that message… Oh yeah, and a couple people “roasted” me in the comments section.

I am proud to have looked hate in the face and said, “No, you’re wrong, there’s a better way.”

Watch it for yourself!

So now I’m challenging you!

… No, not to go on Chris Cantwell’s show. I’m challenging you to step out of your comfort zone and challenge ideas that you may not agree with. If you want to #DebateANazi, more power to you.

I’m asking for something more comprehensive. I’m challenging you to break down these cultural barriers that preserve the status quo. I’m challenging you to be bold and risk a few judgemental stares/comments so that your voice may be heard in a way it never has been.

If you’re reading this email, it means that you already have the revolutionary ideas that can and will make the world a better place.

Get out there and stretch some people’s minds with ideas they might not have ever heard before. Plant the seeds of freedom and love that will grow into tomorrow’s revolution.

Because there is no reason nor is there any point to debate Nazis.

Would you rather these people stew in an echo chamber of hate, or would it be better if liberty minded people were able to break through those cultural boundaries with a resounding message of love?

    Libertarianism is not evangelical christianity.

Liberty is not love. Beware of anyone you have never met claiming they love you. Be aware that the bureaucratization of politics + love is the Ministry of Love, which, of course, tortured anyone who did not love Big Brother(the State). The best case scenario is that this gets little press play to avoid further reinforcement of the libertarian to alt-right pipeline.

dL there is no reason nor is there any point to debate Nazis.

The point is to reach the audience. When you debate someone, you’re not there to convince the opponent, so much as to convince the listeners.

    Libertarianism is not evangelical christianity.

Since when do libertarians not seek to convince other people to become libertarian?

Kokesh was engaging in activism. He was trying to convince Cantwell’s listeners to become libertarians. Activism is, by definition, talking to people who disagree with you.

If Kokesh can convince Nazis to become non-Nazis, is that not a good thing? And how can he do that unless he talks to Nazis? And the larger Cantwell’s audience is, the larger the pool of potential libertarian converts.

That’s not the definition of activism.

Cantwell, apart from being a punk bitch and a nazi, is also a snitch. He’s scum. His “listeners” are scum. If you want to play Johnny Appleseed, there are better alternatives than the sewer.

Since when do libertarians not seek to convince other people to become libertarian?

If Donald Trump and Fatherland Security can’t convince you of the merits of libertarianism, then nothing likely will. Libertarian evangelism on the other hand seems to be in the business of convincing people of the libertarian to alt right pipeline.

The far right is best ignored in most cases. I’ll buy that there’s a place for movement activists to confront these Nazified anarcho-capitalists, if only to challenge the alt-right pipeline, but the campaign trail isn’t it. A good debater finds shared premises before reasoning to a different conclusion, but it’s political lunacy for any candidate to attempt to find common ground with Nazis. And the point of engaging shouldn’t be to deconvert Cantwell or his post-Charlottesville ilk, but rather to convince any hate-stalking or morbidly curious onlooker that libertarianism does not logically lead to their reactionary, identitarian extremist bullshit.
