Tech multi-millionaire John McAfee, who ran for the Libertarian Party’s presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020 and founded the (now defunct) Cyber Party, claimed on Twitter yesterday that German officials arrested him because he would not replace the lace thong he wore as a mask.
I was jailed:
Visited Catalonia just before Europe banned Catalonians from travelling.
Tried to return to Germany and were refused entrance. They demanded we wear masks.
I put on my thong mask.
They demanded I replace it. I refused.

During the current coronavirus pandemic, Germany, like most places today, requires individuals in public to wear a face mask. According to this article from BBC in late April, “Home-made cloth masks are acceptable; people are not expected to wear hospital-style intensive care masks.” Apparently, the German officials felt a lace thong did not function properly as a face mask.
