The Libertarian National Committee called on party activists today to lobby Congress in support of a bipartisan bill seeking to remove troops from the ongoing conflict in Yemen.
In a press release from this morning, the Libertarian National Committee denounced the “United States war machine” and called for an end to what they view as the “most brutal and horrifying war in recent history.” This comes after the LNC passed their own unanimous resolution calling on all “peace loving people” to lobby Congress in support of H.J.RES.87. The LNC also called on the Biden administration to immediately recall all troops and apply diplomatic pressure on Saudi Arabia to end the bloodshed.
H.J.RES.87 directs the removal of all United States Armed Forces not otherwise authorized by Congress from the ongoing hostilities in Yemen. It defines hostilities as the sharing of logistical support and intelligence information for offensive purposes, as well as assigning any Armed Forces members to “command, coordinate, participate in the movement of, or accompany” Saudi-led coalition forces unless authorized in accordance with the War Powers Resolution.
Support varies across the political spectrum, with Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Nancy Mace (R-SC) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) sponsoring the initial resolution. It has since attracted 86 cosponsors to date, including Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Jamaal Bowman who openly identify with the Democratic Socialists of America. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) says that he plans to introduce a companion bill in the Senate.
The House Committee on Foreign Affairs took up the resolution this past May where it remains at this time. The full text of the LNC resolution can be viewed here.
Oh my gosh, this is terrible. The new Mises Caucus dominated LNC just called for the removal of military troops from Yemen. The horror! The Mises Caucus is destroying the Libertarian Party.
