Happy September, Independent Political Report!
This thread will operate as the official September open thread. Please use this for discussions that don’t have a more appropriate home on another post. The Independent Political Report editorial team in addition kindly asks that you remember our Civility Policy. A full list of policies can be found at the footer of the website.
We believe that a healthy awareness and mature discussion of the candidates seeking to influence our institutions strengthens us as individuals and makes our voices more effective. To accomplish that goal, we insist that commenters be civil toward each other while discussing topics on all IPR properties, including on our social media accounts. Robust discussion is good. Using abusive language or calling people names is unacceptable.

Libertarian voter registrations in North Carolina increased by 2,793 since last September to a total of 49,785 now.
From the error messages. someone owns the URL, has it set up with Google, but has yet to put any material on it. Compare that URL with the same URL with a typo in it.
LPNational.org goes nowhere….
@E. Pluribus Unum. Too bad about Yuh Line-Niou. Well, that just shows that the Working Families Party is just an appendage of the Democratic Party. Not independent enough to fight a moderate/centrist(?) Democrat. All about the money windfall for having a line on ballot. Too bad for them. At least the Democratic Socialists are in the Democrat Party and don’t run on separate line. At least they are honest about it.
Update, looks like it’s a nothing burger

“If an Alternative Candidate Is Needed in 2024, These Folks Will Be Ready” by David Brooks
The group No Labels has been working quietly over the past 10 months to give Americans a third viable option. The group calls its work an insurance policy. If one of the parties nominates a candidate acceptable to the center of the electorate, then the presidential operation will shut down. But if both parties go to the extremes, then there will be a unity ticket appealing to both Democrats and Republicans to combat this period of polarized dysfunction.
The No Labels operation is a $70 million effort, of which $46 million has already been raised or pledged. It has four main prongs. The first is to gain ballot access for a prospective third candidate in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The organization is working with lawyers, political strategists and petition firms to amass signatures and establish a No Labels slot on the 2024 ballots. The group already has over 100,000 signatures in Ohio, for example, and 47,000 signatures in Arizona.

More on LPNational.org, from twitter
“Libertarian National Collaboration
@LPNationalColab
We seek to allow those who have been driven away from the Libertarian National Party and unite them under a new organization. This organization seeks to compete directly in the marketplace against the existing national party.
Consider halting any donations being sent to the former organization. We plan to begin accepting donations near the end of the year and we promise to deliver far more value and give much greater results for the contributions you are making.”
They identify LPNational.org as their URL.
Hoping Marshall Burt wins re-election in district #39 in Wyoming. Also, hope 3rd party wins by Misty Morris LP #48, Carrie Satterwhite LP #50, Bethany Baldes LP #55, Dennis Laughlin LP #18, Matthew Freeman CP #41, and Larry Williamson CP #53. All in Wyoming. Wishing good luck to all 3rd party candidates in MA, NH, VT, CT, RI and Maine as well.
The LNC business list reports that LNC Regional Representative Miguel Duque has submitted a motion on New Mexico for the September 11 meeting, reading
Motion: Disaffiliate the Libertarian Party of New Mexico (LPNM) as per Bylaws Article 5.6 for the cause of violating procedure and member rights (e.g. holding multiple illegal conventions with deficient notice and exclusion of members from attendance, and attempting to disaffiliate without the authority of its members assembled in convention). The LNC further directs the Executive Committee to take actions necessary to begin trademark protection on our name and symbols and consider other legal action recommended by LNC counsel.
I’ve been sitting here waiting for the Working Families Party & Yuh Line-Niou to decide what to do
I might have been giving the lnc to much credit. But if this other group does anything other than squate on the domain that would be foolish.
My 2nd guess is someone wants to make some quick cash. That maybe how Angela found out.
Steve: i would agree, but the full LNC Agenda item is
“angela…[email protected]

to lnc-business
The following two items are on the agenda:
1. Seeking legal advice for addressing a competing organization called lpnational.org. This will be a discussion only item. If any action needs to take place, it will be referred to the executive committee and counsel. This will likely need to take place in executive session so I’d like it to be at the end of the meeting.”
And I have posted an editorial on Third Party Watch:
https://thirdpartywatch.com/2022/09/05/editorial-lp-national-disgraces-lp/
Stating the obvious but @lpnational is the twitter account that somebody is using to reprent the official lnc.
Most likely the LNC registered the domain to prevent others from doing so.
Today. September 5, someone registered a URL LPNational.org. It was not the LNC. Today Angela McArdle added to the LNC 9/11 meeting agenda a discussion of this group.
The interesting bit is that as of this typing LPNational.org does not have an active server whose existence has propagated to here. How, then, did Ms. McArdle find out about the URL? Is it visible elsewhere? Does the LNC have spies in LP National’s ranks?
In other news on the topic, the LNC has received from one of its members a motion to disaffiliate the Libertarian Party of New Mexico.
Having previously said on ThirdPartyWatch.com that Massachusetts Libertarian groups were inactive, I can now report that the world has changed a bit. Both Massachusetts statewide groups now have bright, attractive new web pages, at LPMass.org and LPofMA.org, respectively.

Hi Aiden. Is civility a SJW thing? I know a lot of MAGA folks upset that some of them were called semi-fascist. Are they SJW? Also an appeal to authority is something that happens in argumentation. A private property owner making and enforcing their own rules isn’t an appeal to authority. It is, for some, a key part of being a libertarian.
We are a neutral site, not a libertarian, green, alt-right, or socialist site. Your comment was passed, as it is at the edge of violating our civility rules, only so I could remind readers that we are a political newspaper, not a rant-filled screed. We are happy to report on the Green Party, the Democratic Socialists, the Communist Party, the American Renaissance Party, and the Constitution Party, among many others.
