[Editorial team note: This article is part of a series of articles examining various Libertarian Party presidential candidates running in the 2024 election. Articles will be published roughly in the order Independent Political Report learns about them.]

Mike ter Maat bills himself as an Austrian economist and pro-reform police officer.  He is now an announced candidate for the 2024 Libertarian Presidential candidate.

He has an attractive web site, MikeTerMaat.com, that advocates for the Gold New Deal, with issues including immigration reform and ending the Fed.   A half-dozen people are listed as leading operations as part of his campaign team.

ter Maat’s life experience includes an MBA, a doctorate in economics, and a decade as a police officer.  He previously ran for Congress as a Libertarian.  His campaign taglines include “A new relationship between us and the government we will tolerate” and “Your donation is an investment in meaningful reform and a brighter future for all.”

“A bright future for all humanity” was a slogan used in the 1950s by the Soviet Union. I’m not accusing ter Maat of being a closet communist, just noting how these sorts of phrases and slogans can get recycled.
