The No Labels Party received substantial coverage in the form of a long and thorough article in the Washington Post on April 2. No Labels is considering running a candidate for President, and is taking substantial steps to put a hypothetical candidate on the ballot. A critical question — How many voters are open to voting for an independent centrist candidate? — is discussed at some length.
The article gives solid evidence of the importance of an objective news source, such as Independent Political Report, for honest, accurate coverage of third party news. Readers may take note of the discussion in the post, notably
“There is a zero, or near zero, chance that an independent candidate is going to win enough support to win the presidency.”
It is more likely that a robust third-party campaign could win some share of the electorate, as the Green Party did in 2000 and 2016, or a minority of the electoral votes, as Alabama Gov. George Wallace did in 1968.
of which the first sentence is certainly a defensible opinion, but the second sentence, while literally true, seems to skip over the #3 party in the 2016 vote count.
The Libertarian and Constitution parties are not mentioned in the article, which can currently be read here.
