Dan Ward, who previously ran for Congress in Colorado District 8 and got 3.9% of the vote, has announced that he is leaving the Libertarian Party for the Unity Party. He plans to run for Congress again as a Unity Party candidate.
According to Colorado Channel 9, as reasons for leaving the Libertarian Party, Ward indicated:
- He disagrees with their messaging.
- He rejects the welcoming nature of the LP towards white supremacy.
- He noted the hateful nature towards the LGBTQ+ community.
- He disagrees with the party’s policy of letting the poor, elderly, and the nation’s most vulnerable populations “fall to the wayside.”
- He disagrees with the party’s stance on abolishing public schools.
- He also cited internal fighting and the “toxic nature of the new leadership”.
Good for Dan, the Unity Party’s platform makes way more pragmatic sense on a State government level than the LP’s does, and great to see him not associate with bigot enabling dog whistlers, nor bow down to the absolute bs agreement between the Misnamed Caucus controlled Colorado LP and the Colorado GOP not to run candidates in races where a third voice other than the R&D crap is truly needed.
It sounds like he was not much of a libertarian then, so perhaps the Unity Party is a better fit for him.
