California Libertarian Party Convention to Include Independent Cornel West on Presidential Candidate Panel

Independent presidential candidate Dr. Cornel West will participate in a candidate’s panel sponsored by the Libertarian Party of California at its 2024 state convention. West will join fellow independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was announced earlier this month as a panelist and guest speaker for the event.

“Dr. West will be participating in the second POTUS Candidate Panel taking place on Sunday evening alongside Libertarian Party candidate Mr. Jacob Hornberger. The Libertarian Party of California is proud to be the first state affiliate in the country to give Libertarian POTUS candidates the opportunity to engage in dialogue with a presidential candidate outside of the Libertarian Party,” the Libertarian Party of California said in an email sent Saturday afternoon.

West is the second independent presidential candidate and the seventh candidate overall who was either confirmed to attend or announced they are attending the Libertarian Party of California’s 2024 state convention, according to research by Independent Political Report.

On Saturday morning, four Libertarian Party presidential candidates will briefly address convention attendees individually during the business session. These four candidates are Dr. Michael Rectenwald, Mike ter Maat, Dr. Jacob Hornberger, and Dr. Charles Ballay. Libertarian presidential hopeful Joshua Smith has also stated on social media that he will be in the convention audience. Following the business session, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is scheduled to address attendees during the lunch break.

For more details about Kennedy’s invitation, readers can refer to an earlier article produced by Independent Political Report.

According to the schedule of events, the first presidential panel at the convention will occur on Saturday evening at 5:30 PM PST. It will include Libertarian hopefuls Dr. Michael Rectenwald and Mike ter Maat, with New York Libertarian activist Larry Sharpe as the moderator. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will also be participating in the panel. According to the party earlier this month, Kennedy’s inclusion is intended to offer presidential candidates in attendance a chance to see how they compare against a candidate outside of the Libertarian Party’s “inner circle.”

On the following evening at the same time, another presidential panel is scheduled to occur after the convention adjourns. This second panel will include Libertarian presidential candidate Dr. Jacob Hornberger and independent candidate Dr. Cornel West, with Larry Sharpe returning as the moderator.

The Libertarian Party of California’s 2023 Annual Convention will take place at the Hilton Costa Mesa in Costa Mesa, California, from February 23 to February 25, 2024.

George, it seems Chase Oliver is not a chosen one. Nor is Art Olivier one of the other front runners seeking the nomination.

Engaging people and politicians across the spectrum–including running candidates as LP on limited issues– is part of the LP job that I expect, and that was intended.

    Congratulations to California LP.

I am surprised that Chase Oliver is not scheduled to be a speaker at the convention.
