The Green Party presidential nominee will be on the Wisconsin general election ballot later this year, marking the first appearance of the party’s presidential nominee on the ballot since 2016.
According to Wisconsin Public Radio, the Green Party’s presidential nominee will appear on the general election ballot after the Wisconsin Elections Commission unanimously agreed to add them last week. This decision was based on the Green Party’s performance in the 2022 state elections, where the party earned more than one percent in a statewide race.
In 2022, the party ran Milwaukee organizer Sharyl McFarland for Wisconsin Secretary of State, who received 41,532 votes, accounting for 1.58% of the total.
The last Green Party presidential nominee to appear on the ballot in Wisconsin was Dr. Jill Stein in 2016, who earned 31,072 votes and covered the margin of victory between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton. However, in 2020, Green Party presidential nominee Howie Hawkins still received over 1,000 write-in votes although he did not appear on the ballot.
