Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be in New York City next week for a press conference, during which he is expected to make a “major announcement.” The Kennedy-Shanahan campaign teased the announcement on its official campaign site.
According to a press release published by the Kennedy-Shanahan campaign on Thursday, the campaign will host a press conference in Brooklyn on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. The release states that Kennedy will deliver the announcement during the conference. Additionally, the campaign will livestream the announcement on its official YouTube channel.
As of this article, the campaign has not provided further details on what the announcement entails, and speculation on social media by Kennedy supporters has varied. However, according to the Ballot Access HQ map maintained on Kennedy’s official campaign website, the campaign has over three dozen community-organized events and petitioning opportunities across the state beginning Friday and leading up to the announcement. It also references the locations where the campaign currently has ballot access in the recent release.
The Kennedy-Shanahan campaign has not yet qualified for the general election ballot in New York. As an independent ticket, the campaign must collect and submit 45,000 valid signatures.

The article says the press conference was on May 1. Whatever the major announcement was, it wasn’t major enough for a follow up article.
He already said he won’t seek the L.P. nomination. However, he has said he’ll accept their invitation to speak there, and would like to debate Trump. The latter seems highly unlikely, although I expect it will happen later, elsewhere.
The announcement could be a lot of things. My first guess is enough signatures to be in the NY ballot. It could be that he will speak at lpcon. It might be Shannahan forking over another chunk of her ex husband’s money to the campaign. Or a lot of other things.
It would be so hilariously stupid on top of the already raging dumpster fire for him to jump into the LP at this late date. But nothing else comes to mind for what he’d tease like this, at this point in the cycle. “Major announcement” is invariably something about the campaign as such, not just that he’s going to go on his usual spiel or talk about policy or something mundane like that.
