Cornel West Campaign Calls for Equity in Candidate Safety, Requests Secret Service Protection

The campaign of independent presidential candidate Dr. Cornel West is formally calling for U.S. Secret Service protection following an attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump over this past weekend.

The campaign made the push for protection in a press release on Thursday, stating that its plea underscores the need for equitable safety measures for all presidential candidates, regardless of their political affiliations. It additionally referenced several policy views held by West that it says have subjected him to scrutiny and hostility in the media.

“Dr. West has consistently voiced critical opinions on U.S. policies, especially those concerning Israel and Zionist ideologies, setting him apart from other prominent candidates like former President Donald J. Trump, President Joseph R. Biden Jr., and Mr. Robert F. Kennedy Jr,” the release reads. “These positions have subjected Dr. West to intense scrutiny and hostile portrayals by some media outlets, emphasizing the need for consistent and unbiased protection.”

The West campaign added that it has since approached Democratic Congresswoman Katie Porter of California, who is West’s congressional representative, about receiving protection in accordance with procedural guidelines provided by the Department of Homeland Security. Edwin DeJesus, a spokesperson for the campaign quoted in the release, also urged President Joe Biden to “uphold the principles of democracy and fairness in the distribution of Secret Service protection.”

“We call upon President Biden and the relevant authorities to act now in addressing this significant disparity and affirm their commitment to the safety and security of all candidates, which is foundational to a free and fair electoral process,” added DeJesus.

They do a terrible job. I wouldn’t want it if I was him.

The guy can’t even just request secret service protection like Kennedy, but has to put it in terms of “equity in candidate safety” and “democracy and fairness in the distribution of Secret Service protection.” Such pretentious language, such a sense of entitlement – how typical of a communist.
