Cornel West Campaign Qualifies for Washington State Ballot Through Justice For All Party, Hints at Impact on Future Local and State Races

The presidential campaign of Dr. Cornel West announced on Friday that it had secured ballot access in Washington State through the Justice For All Party. The campaign also alluded to the potential impact the party could have on future local and state elections.

In a press release, the West campaign stated that the presidential ticket successfully secured a spot on the ballot, calling it both a victory for the campaign and democracy. “This enables the campaign to address critical issues facing Washington—from environmental challenges and economic disparities to championing social justice,” said West, who is quoted in the release.

The campaign also noted that ballot access for the Justice For All Party will extend beyond the presidential election cycles, potentially impacting future local and state elections in Washington. The campaign emphasized that it was establishing a “lasting legacy,” which it hopes will contribute to “a more diverse and representative political discourse in Washington and beyond.”

To qualify for the ballot through the Justice For All Party, campaign volunteers needed to collect 1,000 valid signatures from registered Washington voters and host a nominating convention for the party. The Justice For All Party of Washington held its nominating convention on May 4, 2024, at the Raisbeck Performance Hall in Seattle, according to information previously provided by the West campaign.

According to the Washington Secretary of State’s office, the West-Abdullah ticket is one of nine independent and third party presidential campaigns to qualify for the ballot.
