The Green Party of Pennsylvania has elected new leadership following its annual State Committee meeting last month. Delegates chose several new members to serve on the party’s Steering Committee, as well as a new co-chair and secretary.
According to the February issue of GREEN STAR, 35 delegates from 10 counties met early last month for the State Committee meeting. The meeting took place on January 12 and was held remotely, with voting delegates to the meeting previously elected by their respective County Committees based on local Green Party voter registration.
Timothy Runkle was elected as the newest Green Party of Pennsylvania Co-Chair, having previously served in various leadership roles with the party, including Treasurer and as a 2024 Member-at-Large on the Steering Committee. He replaces Jeremy Griffin and will join current Co-Chair Theron Gilliland Jr., who remains in the position for another year.
Delegates also elected three new Members-at-Large from Allegheny, Centre, and McKean Counties. Colleen Schmotzer, who represents Allegheny, previously co-chaired the Abandon Biden (later renamed to Harris) Campaign and has been active with Muslims and Allies for Palestinian Rights. Barbara Laxon, who represents McKean, is a former state Steering Committee member and Florida Green activist who served on two national Green Party committees. Lastly, Erin King of Centre is a newer member of the Green Party with a background in voter outreach, including canvassing and phone banking.
Additionally, delegates named former Member-at-Large Alex Casper as the next Green Party of Pennsylvania Secretary, replacing Nina Larbi. In a statement included in GREEN STAR, Casper emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability within the Steering Committee and pledged to ensure regular public meetings and active participation from leadership, including tracking attendance and contacting inactive members to fill vacant positions.
