The Libertarian Party announced this week that it is seeking members of the party who are interested in serving on either its Bylaws and Rules Committee or its Ballot Access Committee for the coming year.
In a post made Thursday on the National Committee’s public Business List, Secretary Caryn Ann Harlos noted that the party is currently accepting applications for both committees, with details on the party’s website. The application process is open until mid-May, with the National Committee then voting on applicants during its next in-person meeting shortly afterward.
According to information from the application process, the Bylaws and Rules Committee includes ten open committee positions, plus additional seats for alternates. The committee is responsible for proposing changes to the party’s bylaws and rules, which are later voted on during the Libertarian National Convention. The party cautions applicants that there is a heavy workload associated with serving on the committee and that an advanced knowledge of rules and parliamentary procedure is required. High consideration will be given to those applicants who commit to attending the party’s 2026 National Convention, whether as a delegate or general attendee.
Meanwhile, there are seven open positions on the Ballot Access Committee; however, the party is only accepting four applicants, as three of the seats are reserved for members of the National Committee. The committee assists the party’s Ballot Access Coordinator by proposing strategies, advising on funding allocations, and recommending projects related to petitioning, litigation, lobbying, and other techniques for improving ballot access. It also prepares detailed reports on ballot access progress and develops procedures.
Further questions are to be directed to Harlos. The Libertarian National Committee will meet for its in-person meeting at the Amway Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan, from May 17 to May 18.
Considering the issues over the years, why is Harlos running this? I have a major problem with this.
