Massachusetts Forward Party to Hold First State Convention in May

The Massachusetts Forward Party will meet on May 4 in Waltham for its inaugural convention, where members will adopt party bylaws and elect state leadership. This event marks a milestone for the group, which reorganized under its current state lead last year and has not previously held a convention.

According to convention details published this weekend, the meeting will take place at the American Legion Hall in Waltham. While a full public agenda has not yet been released, the party stated in an email that members will vote on approving the organization’s bylaws and elect officers for its State Executive Committee. Positions up for election include state chair, vice chair, and finance chair. Organizers also plan to introduce the party’s new Policy and Platform Committee and host guest speakers.

The party has not specified a registration process or required dues for the convention beyond asking that potential attendees register on the website in advance. It is also accepting applications from members interested in pursuing a leadership role until April 25, noting that the all roles should be treated as serious commitments. Individuals may nominate themselves, and nominees who have not been previously vetted by the party will be subject to a background check.

“Otherwise, after submitting the application form, all nominees will be provided an opportunity to make their case to the party membership at the state convention,” the party added.

The Massachusetts Forward Party first reorganized under its current leadership last May, naming Keoni Aricayos as state lead. Around that same time, the party collected enough valid signatures to qualify as a political designation in the state, allowing any candidates running unaffiliated with a major party to appear on the ballot under the Forward label. It has not fielded any candidates affiliated with the organization since then, and Aricayos continues to serve as state lead going into the convention.
