The United States Transhumanist Party has endorsed independent candidate Drew Bingaman in Pennsylvania’s 108th House District, becoming the second national political organization to back his candidacy.
In a statement released April 6, the party said the endorsement is part of its ongoing “All Hands for a Free Future” coalition with the United States Pirate Party, under which the two groups have worked to support similar candidates and policy objectives.
In its endorsement, the Transhumanist Party praised Bingaman’s positions on a range of issues, many of which it said align with planks of its own platform. These include requiring law enforcement officers to wear body cameras, support for cannabis legalization, protection of digital privacy rights, and broader government reforms such as lowering barriers to public records, opposing “monopolistic practices,” and challenging a political duopoly.
“Indeed, the two-party system is the problem,” the statement read. “For this reason among many others, the U.S. Transhumanist Party is pleased to endorse Drew Bingaman and his challenge to the two-party system in Pennsylvania.”
Bingaman initially sought the Democratic nomination for the seat earlier this year with backing from the Pirate Party but withdrew from the primary after failing to meet the state’s petition signature requirements. In a statement at the time, he said that weather conditions and limited volunteer availability both played a role in preventing his campaign from qualifying for the ballot.
He reentered the race the following day as an independent candidate, again with support from the Pirate Party. As an independent, Bingaman faces a higher signature threshold but has until early August to complete the process.
Bingaman, who currently chairs the state Pirate Party, previously served as captain of the Pirate National Committee. He has also been active in libertarian politics, helping to found the Susquehanna Valley Libertarian Party in 2013 and later serving as chair of the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania from 2017 to 2019.
As part of the endorsement, the Transhumanist Party said it will host Bingaman on its Virtual Enlightenment Salon program on May 10 to further discuss his campaign.
